Global Entry Card renewal - wait time?

Post by advice789 »

Am wondering of the experience of others regarding the renewal processing time for the Global Entry card. Am in month 4, still waiting.

The website indicates 4-6 months to process renewals. A friend applied for renewal in March, and immediately(less than 5 days) was approved for an interview. I applied for renewal in Jan, with the card expiring in May. As of today, the Global entry web site indicates my application is still in review. Said another way- the renewal process is
1) Apply for renewal.
2) Gov reviews and upon successful completion, conditional approval is granted.
3) Conditional approval then requires scheduling of an interview.
4) Interview conducted.
5) Upon successful interview, a renewal card is provided.

Currently am waiting since Jan in Step 2 (4 months to date)—What have others experienced in step 2 waiting time?
Also, any action to follow-up as there is no phone number for a real person at customer support- The phone number, provided on the website, is only automated messages.

Not sure anyone knows... mine was renewed without an interview and they just sent a new card : shrug : If you have to do an interview, it's bad news as I could not get one for my wife's FIRST issue... She had to do it on a recent overseas trip (on entry). You can ask a question from the portal, although they never answered mine.

My last renewal also just happened all online after I submitted for the renewal and paid. Took a few days to complete as I recall.

Thanks for the two data points. Seems a few days is more the norm vs the 4-6 month wait per the site and my experience. Hope others reply

Same here, but might have taken 2 - 3 weeks.

Here's a long thread with a large number of responses on renewal timing. Answers range from days to over a year. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trusted ... lines.html The consensus is that there's nothing useful to do to speed up the process.

I applied to renew my Global Entry card in March. My wife applied to renew hers within a day or two of my application. She got her new Global Entry card in the mail several weeks later - no interview required. My application still show waiting for conditional approval.

Mine was renewed in 2021. I applied online for renewal on August 5, didn't have to do an interview, was approved on September 14. I suppose the increased delay now could be explained by more people traveling post-COVID plus more people finding out about and applying for Global Entry.

I applied for renewal in October 2022. As of June 1, 2023, my application is still pending. I'm in Los Angeles, so I wonder if the wait times are longer here. My card expired in March 2023, but I was still able to get the benefits (pre-check and Global Entry) when I travelled internationally in May.

My partner renewed earlier this year and was approved within a few days. However, his original application went through Baltimore, which is why I wonder if airport location makes a difference.

My wife and I applied at the same time early this February, with our current cards expiring in September. We had identical travel histories and identical categories of documentation. She was approved overnight and had a new card within a week. I am still pending.

If you get approved without manual intervention - its about 48 hours. If not, it can be anywhere from 6-12 months.

As long as you applied for renewal prior to the expiration date, your existing benefits are still good for two years. Don't sweat the wait time.

Appreciate all the replies. While still disappointed regarding the delays, the sharing of your experiences reduces anxiety.

Ditto. We applied last November. I was approved within a day or two and my wife, with identical travel history, is still pending.

I applied when I got the 180 day email late September 2022. Still waiting. I also received the extension for renewals and used it recently.

My wife got hers within a few weeks of submitting.

Renewed online last spring, no interview, card mailed within two weeks. I visited Mexico twice in the past 5 years otherwise no Intl travel. I'm guessing something got you flagged for needing an interview upon renewal.

Another +1 for my wife about a month ago ... koupla days.

BTW, I went thru customs at ORD the other day - all facial recognition. GE guys training us saying "no passports" just look into the screen ... sure enuff, in 2-3 seconds it says "see agent" and the agent hands you a card for final exit from the chaos of the baggage scrum. When it works, it works.

I applied about a year ago and am still waiting. My “extension” expires in about 3 months. It will be interesting to see if they get in touch before that.

I went through ORD a couple of months ago. Same thing. However...they somewhat yelled at me trying to scan my passport. The machines still have not been updated and the instructions (physically on the machine) say to scan your passport.

I forgot to renew during the pandemic. My global entry was expired when I finally had the chance to renew. It took a year to get approved. No interview though.

We are another couple in this situation. Early in 2022, I applied for renewal and was quickly granted an online interview and renewal. My wife, with identical travel history, applied after we returned from some trip.... She was told that she needed an in-person interview (at least without much delay before being told).

We couldn't find any interview slots in close proximity to Nashville; indeed, there were very few in-person slots anywhere in the country at that time. Luckily, we found a slot within 3 or 4 months at SFO (near one of our sons), and scheduled a visit to see our granddaughter that happened to coincide with the available slot for the Global Entry interview....

(Didn't realize that the pending renewal request would serve to preserve our status....)
