Nice, same price as last year! Apparently YOY inflation on tax software is 0%.
Usually it takes until later in the week to see a price that good. Now the only question is what do I do for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I'm sure Steam has a big sale on games. That's tempting, but I already have a backlog of several games I haven't had time to play.

Amazon Prime card offers 20% cash back for that item.
I'm not sure what card you have, but I only got the standard 5% back for Amazon purchases with my Chase Amazon card.

Thanks all. I think the "premium and business" I buy will also include personal tax capability, so I'll give it a try importing data and starting a personal return. If I don't like it I can always go buy TurboTax later...
Edit: Premium + Business is $69.97 at both Walmart.com and Amazon
It will be less than that from time to time, perhaps in the next couple of days.

Indeed!
Except, in my case, I got so excited that I accidentally clicked on the PC download version when I actually needed the Mac version.
So my cost *might* wind up being double last year! I went ahead and ordered the Mac version also.
Amazon says that the purchase is not refundable but I believe if I don't actually download the unneeded PC version, I may be able to return the PC version for credit. If not, it will be an object lesson in need to be less impulsive!
It does not look easy or straightforward to return. Apparently I need to contact Amazon customer service chat.

I contacted Amazon customer service chat. That was an interesting and educational experience. I first had to deal with a chat bot, which was triaging my issue. I eventually got handed off to "Mayuri," who appeared to be a real human. After looking at my transactions, she said she had cancelled the order and the credit should show up on my account in "2 to 3 days." We shall see.
Edited to add: have now gotten a followup confirmation email from Amazon customer service, which says credit will come "in 3 to 5 days." This is fine by me. (Billing cycle on the card does not close until 12/14.)

Confirmed at $22.49 + tax. You'll get a confirmation email with a link to download the software. The activation code is on the Amazon download site.
Deal ends early Friday morning!!

I already have last year’s HR Block software installed on my PC. Do I need to buy PC Download or PC Activation by Mail for this one? Thanks.
invstar - You will need to purchase the 2021 version.

Ok downloaded but I usually buy the disc.
If I need to reinstall how do I do it? Do I need to keep track of the emails or ??
You could save the file you downloaded, and the license key if applicable. Of course that wouldn't be useful if the manufacturer no longer makes updates available, or eventually if the file becomes incompatible with whatever the operating system of the day is.

I just purchased deluxe + state on Amazon for $15.49 before tax after they surprisingly applied $7 in various promotions. Lowest I've ever paid.
Same price, $22.49, but also 20% back with Amazon Prime credit card, plus if you choose super saver shipping, you get a $1 digital credit too.
No regrets for me for passing on this since I traditionally use Thanksgiving weekend to project my taxes and make fine-tuning decisions on things like Roth conversions. Mail service has been unreliable so instant gratification of download is better for me.

Somehow I missed that the 20% was for the USmail version, and of course I only figured that out five minutes after purchasing the download version without the 20%. So I have regrets - no rush for me.

I Bought @ Newegg for $22.49. I prefer to give the smaller guy some business.
Discount coupon shows on-line for you to apply during checkout.
The download link and Product-Key came by email. It downloaded and installed with no issues.
I was about to hit purchase on Amazon when I saw your post.
I agree completely and had bought last year from Newegg so switched to them and bought it.
Thank you!
Well now I feel better, sort of, because when Amazon didn't charge me sales tax for the download, I wondered why, and learned that apparently my state exempts digitally-delivered software. So that saved me from needlessly paying sales tax (at income tax time) on two other programs I've purchased (not from Amazon, so I'd figured they were just lazy in not charging sales tax.) That also means that last year I needlessly paid some sales taxes, but not enough to make it worthwhile filing an amended return.
Of course buying the physical version with the extra percent off for using an Amazon card, combined with already knowing the sales tax rules, would have been optimal.

The Mac download version is also on sale at 22.49. Previously only the PC version was reduced.
Mac download version was 22.49 for me when I ordered it at 9:20 am (right after I mistakenly ordered the PC version!) Not sure why the Mac download did not show up that way for you earlier today.

Got a $1 "Amazon Day Reward", so it came to $21.49 + tax. not too shabby. I guess no inflation for HRB.
Fascinating to see how some of us are being presented with different prices. As RM might put it, some of us appear to be the control group!

I always [now] carefully check all the details before purchasing. Last year in my haste I accidentally ordered the send-download-code-by-snail-mail version rather than the direct download, so I had to wait a few days to get the activation code packaged in a box that should have been an email.

Is there any difference between the PC Dowload version and the Code by Mail version? Just asking b/c it's 20% off for the Code by Mail version

One difference, of course, is the delay and uncertain arrival time of the Code by Mail.
Also, the download version (in Amazon's case) conveniently archives your key in your permanent Amazon software library within your Amazon account, which is convenient if you are prone to mislaying things.
On the other hand, the Code by Mail version apparently works on both the PC and Mac platforms, which could be useful if you think you might be switching platforms as well as computers before you get around to finishing your taxes (or potentially amending them.)

I wasn't referring to earlier today, but a couple of days ago when the PC was in the mid $30s and the Mac was still normal priced.

Those digital credits were "earned" by people. They either have chosen "Prime Day" shipping or "No Rush" shipping in the past, which gave them credits that could be used for digital contents. It isn't Amazon presenting different prices

Could be. I know have "earned" credits that way in the past. But for other Amazon purchases, I have also occasionally been presented serendipitously with the option to click on an unsolicited and unearned "coupon code" checkbox that gives me a discount I had not earned in that way.
Another good reason to read the page carefully before ordering.

I saw that you have already gotten that fixed but for future reference "non-refundable" software is actually returnable and refundable.
The reason is that virtually all software will have a terms and condition end user license agreement that will pop up and you have to press the "I agree" button to be able to use the software. Deep in the agreement they have to provide a way to get a refund if you do not agree to the terms, otherwise the agreement is not valid.
One time back when software came on CD's I bought a game and it turned out my PC was not capable of playing even in a limited graphics mode. In the agreement it said to take it back to the place of purchase to get a refund if you do not agree to the terms. I printed out that part of the agreement and took it back into the store and said I did not agree to the terms because they were too complex and I was able to get a refund. I did have to get a manager to approve it but it was not that hard so I suspect that they had run into that before.
On the other hand, the Code by Mail version apparently works on both the PC and Mac platforms, which could be useful if you think you might be switching platforms as well as computers before you get around to finishing your taxes (or potentially amending them.)
At Newegg, the order history screen's download link allows you to download the EXE Windows installer or the DMG Mac installer + shows your "key", thus I assume that the same key works with either Win or Mac.
The history list also allows me to view last year purchase and it's key.

+ tax in my state reduces the 20% somewhat but still ahead. Also another $1 digital credit for no rush shipping lowers it to net $18.73. I'll take it. Also, the code by mail option is returnable for $5 Kohl's cash if the price drops further.

For H&R Block 2020, Amazon's price for Deluxe + State bounced between $22.49 and ~$40. The lowest price was $22.49. I didn't see it lower at Amazon last year (or this January/February), but over at NewEgg:
For H&R Block 2020, Newegg's lowest price for Deluxe + State was $17.99 on January 12, 2021. WINNER
Newegg may have had its H&R Block Deluxe + State lowest price on a few other days as well. Amazon's price usually includes a 3 or 3.5% refund bonus offer. Historically cyber Monday is the almost-cheapest price, with a day or two in January that it dips even lower, although not by much. ($4-5)
