Non US residents as beneficiary to a Life insurance policy.

Post by moneyzone »

Hi,

I want to name my mother who is not a US resident as beneficiary to my term life insurance beneficiary.
I called geico and they told that beneficiary must be able to travel to the USA, have address and contact number, have a bank account to receive the money.

My mother has US visitor visa, so she can travel as required. What to do about address, phone number and SSN?
I am thinking to use my address and phone number as hers.
May be she can get an ITIN if required?
I would appreciate any advice.

I am already getting another bigger(in amount and term both) policy with my spouse as 100% primary and a Living revocable trust as a 100% secondary beneficiary.

A separate policy is just for the benefit of Mother. I want money to goto her directly in case something happens to me. Alternatively, I can ask wife or trust to do it, but I would feel comfortable if I can just name my mother as beneficiary directly for a separate 10y policy.
