I have been doing some spring cleaning and deleting old accounts on various websites. For the most part, this process has been fairly smooth, 99% of the sites made it easy to do. However, a few websites I have not yet been able to delete the account. One such example:
lendingtree.com
There is no built in method to delete your account, so I emailed support and requested my account and personal data be deleted. They replied that they were unable to delete my personal information due to compliance with federal law. I understand that there is data which must be retained for legal/tax purposes, however I am concerned that I cannot close the account. By having an open account with a website, you are agreeing to their terms of use which can change at anytime, how can this be permissible if there is no option to close your account?
