Turbotax : Moving expenses for CA

Post by stocknoob4111 »

I moved from CA to TX for a new job, after the move I continued to have CA income for 2 weeks which represents 4.5% of my total income in the new job. For 2020 I have around 50% of my total annual income from my old job in CA.

Can I deduct my entire moving expenses? It's rather confusing as some sources say I can and others say that it's only against CA source income after moving out of state...i.e. after the move out of state you take the ratio of CA source income earned out of state vs total income earned out of state and use that ratio to deduct total moving expenses... is this the correct way to do it? Example in my case it would only be 4.5% of my moving expenses.

Turbotax has an option "I moved WHOLLY out of CA", I have no idea what that actually means because it also has another option "I moved out of CA". What does "WHOLLY" mean?
