Barclays 6/24 rule

Post by SlowMovingInvestor »

I'm thinking of applying for a Barclays card. I had an American Airlines card with them in the past, but that was closed 2 years ago.

I hear they have a 6/24 rule (no more than 6 cards in 24 months from all providers). My '6th' (i.e. I have 5 cards after that date) card was issued mid March 2019. Now it's April 2021, so should I expect it to fall off pre this or any similar rule ?

I have some largish payments I want to make with a new card for the signup bonus, so I'd like to try for the card this month. My credit score is > 800, so I'm not that concerned about a credit check on my report, but I don't want Barclays to reject me because of 6/24 now, and keep me ineligible for the card for several months after that just because of a failure now. [ i.e. I'd rather wait 2 months if that's what it takes to clear 6/24]
