Which Other Insurance Companies To Get Quotes From?

Post by Mugen »

Hi all,

I'm redoing quotes from several insurance companies this year, to get the best quality policies at the best rates.

I'm searching for Auto, RV, and Renters Insurances.

I'll probably go with Geico for Auto & RV, and possibly Oregon Mutual for Renters Insurance, but I want to make sure I've gotten quotes from all the reputable Insurance Companies out there.

The companies I've contacted so far are:

1. Geico
2. Travelers (which contracts with Geico for Renters Insurance)
3. Amica
4. Safeco
5. Oregon Mutual
6. PolicyGenius.com: Stillwater Insurance for Renters Insurance
7. New Jersey Manufacturers: which doesn't seem to operate in my state.

Any others I should contact for quotes?

Let me know, thanks.

If you are a member of Costco, get a quote from them. The provider varies, but has been well-vetted and if there's a problem... Costco will lean on them.

There are literally hundreds but if you have done a half dozen you need to consider whether you are going to get a seriously better rate anywhere.

Maybe one of those comparison apps I keep seeing TV ads about?

I would suggest letting an insurance broker shop your policies.

If you don't want to go that route then you could try State Farm, The Hartford, American Family, Travelers, Nationwide and Allstate to name a few large companies.
I guess it all could be much worse. | They could be warming up my hearse.

Shop them all every few years. Including independent agent. Take the lowest price and self-insure for as much as you can.

Insurance is a highly competitive marketplace with 100's of companies in any given state offering coverage. At a national level the largest carriers are: State Farm, GEICO, Progressive, Allstate and Farmers. For some carriers the rate that you can self-quote on the internet may be different than that which an Agent might provide, reflecting the different cost structures and risk profiles of those different customer bases. I'd suggest on-line quoting where-ever possible as well as reaching out to a few reputable local independent agents.

Geico.

I switched my auto, home, umbrella policies from USAA to Geico about two years ago. I saved about 50%. Geico's service has been excellent. In addition, my auto rates went down in the last year.

When I switched to Geico I got quotes from many other companies. Overall Geico had the best prices, service, website, etc.

Geico is pretty good, but I may switch to Progressive next year unless there's another 15% COVID discount. I understand the 2 companies are similar, and I can save some money with Progressive. I still have more calls to make, but I'm getting somewhere.

How many hours have you spent on this project? How much money do you expect to save? Is it worth that much of your time?

Not sure if they do renters, but Ameriprise gave me the best rate on home insurance.
Geico has given me the best rate on auto.

If anybody wants to know for their own purposes, I think I found the answer, for my situation at least.

Geico and Progressive seem to have the lowest costs for Auto & RV while still being reputable insurance companies.

For Renter's Insurance, Costco's Connect by AmFam had the best deal, with all the discounts I qualified for.
