Barclays Bank Online Savings Now 0.80% (July 30, 2020)

Post by obafgkm » Thu Jul 30, 2020 7:20 pm

I keep most of my emergency fund in Barclays Bank. I periodically check the interest rate, and July 30, 2020 found that it had fallen from 1.00 % to 0.80 % (a few days ago it was still 1.00 %). Oh well.

I noticed this drop this morning, too. :(

All these accounts are reducing rates with minor differences in the dates and increments. What is more important now as almost all their underlying investments have been purchased in the 0 rate environment, is where the bottom will be. They will still want to be competitive with each other, but good chance they will all bottom out within 5-10 basis points of each other.

There rates make the I Bonds I bought in April look amazing (12 month composite rate of 1.74%).

The other cash part of my emergency fund is in a credit union Rewards Checking account earning 3.00 % (only up to $10,000). I wonder how long that will last...

My checking account offers a 1% interest rate, so most of my money is in my checking account for now. I'm wondering if that will last much longer, too.

Looks cool, except:
"Your investment in PremierNotes is not equivalent to a deposit or other bank account and is not guaranteed, insured or subject to the protection of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation."

I'd rather just buy their stock.
