Best rewards bonus for a large purchase

Post by Caduceus »

I am thinking of buying something that will cost about $4000 and I don't usually chase credit card rewards, but was wondering if there would be any cards worth the bonus if I had a one-time $4000 purchase I could put on the card. I was thinking that the traditional advice to get rewards miles does not seem to make sense anymore since I'm not sure if anyone will be flying anytime soon or if the miles will even be worth anything.

Any specific card bonus recommendations?

Go for something like the chase sapphire. Can use the points for cash or travel. Can also transfer to other rewards programs (Southwest, Hyatt, etc).

If you state what type of merchant will process the charge, you may get better advice. I use BOA and preferred rewards and get a base cachback of around 2.6%. Some types of merchants get better. For example, gas is >5% but not really buying much these days.

Many credit cards will extend a warranty for things that you buy with a credit card so that might be worth considering too.

A lot of companies dropped that last year so even if you think you have a credit card that does that be sure to double check that it still does.

The Costco credit card will extend warranties up to two year even if you do not buy it at Costco.

Bank of American Business Cash Rewards: $500 bonus after spending $5000. No annual fee. You can choose your 3% category so if what you want to buy falls into one of the available categories you can get yourself an additional $120 cashback.

Not a rewards bonus, but depending on what you’re buying, you can use an app like Rakuten/Ebates to purchase and get a certain % cash back, which would be additional savings on top of bonuses you could get with CC or checking accounts.
