IRS Get My Payment up and running

Post by rkhusky » Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:40 am

I just provided the IRS with my bank information at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment.

I received a refund in 2018, but owed in 2019, so they should have had my bank information from 2018, but they didn't. Just needed SSN, DOB, and address to get in, and then AGI and payment/refund info from 2019 1040 to enter the bank info.

Kudos to the IRS for getting this set up in such short order and on-time.

Had to put my info in as well since owed this year on federal. Please update if anyone who had to put in this extra info either gets the direct deposit or when a possible date for funding it is announced.

I couldn't get it to work. I planned everything so we neither owed nor got a refund for 2019 and the page errs out. Will not allow neither refund nor balance due!

So I used my 2018 info, had my return right in front me, but the IRS doesn't agree with the AGI or refund.

Sheesh.. :confused

I have not filed for 2019, but got a refund in 2018 that was direct deposited. However, I also filed an amendment for 2018, got additional refund via mail, IRS does that for amended returns. So, had to provide bank information today at the Get My Payment site.

Received this message, "Payment Status Not Available".

Couldn't enter anything else. Last files for 2018, AGI under limits.

The online tool is up but it isn't working.

I couldn't even get past the first screen where you enter SSN, DOB, and address before it says the information I entered does not match their records. I am entering the information exactly as shown in my tax return. Then I must have tried too many times because the online tool locked me out.

Had two other members of my family try the online tool and were given the same error saying info doesn't match the records also.

The IRS screwing up again.

If you're already receiving SS payments through direct deposit to your checking account, isn't this supposed to happened automatically? Do I have to fill out and submit that form with bank routing number, AGI, etc?

Received some very useful information from the site...

"Payment Status Not Available"

Well it's more than i received from the SBA or BOA on my requests for an update on my companies EDSL and PPP requests...

Received this on trying to use the IRS Get My Payment-

“ Payment Status Not Available

According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.”

The system did not allow any opportunity to provide information. No work around provided.

I got something like "unable to determine eligibility". They have had my 2018 return for over a year and it clearly qualifies.

We have to file with an identity protection PIN. I wonder if this could be blocking access?

My experience so far - I owed taxes in 2018 and 2019, paid out of my checking account. I logged into the tool today, and it indicated that they need my direct deposit information, which is as expected. I entered it, and now the status shows that I am eligible for the payment, but there is no date scheduled yet. The status updates daily, so will check back tomorrow.

Neat tool. I'd checked the bank yesterday and didn't see anything, but the IRS says they're depositing today.

They were able to find my checking account this morning to take my payment for last year, but not to make a deposit. I had to go to Get My Payment and enter my bank info. I checked back later and they confirmed they had my info, but said to check back later to find out when I might see the money.

Same here. Not sure why they didn't use my checking account info from the 2018 return when I got a refund deposited into my account.

Let's see how long it takes from this point forward.

Same for us. Tried both wife and my info. We owed taxes 2017-2019, haven't filed 2019 yet. If I recall we used bank info to pull the funds. Guess will try a different day.

Its very interesting how people are getting the results they are.

I did not qualify in 2018, and got a refund. I did qualify with my 2019 taxes, which I filed in time, and owed. Same bank account, so I assumed they had my information, though I did not get a stimulus payment yet. I just used the portal, they said I qualified, entered info from my 2019 taxes, added my bank account again, and apparently the payment is on its way, though I don't know when. No problems, took me 5 minutes.

Sorry for those that can't get it to work, must be frustrating for sure.

I was able to enter my information and a confirmation I will get the payment. I received a refund in 2018 but owed in 2019, and unfortunately they still needed my info.

I filed MFJ... I am assuming only I have to fill out the form? My wife and child's portion of the payment should be lumped together?

I got a refund in 2018 that was direct deposited to my checking account. In 2019, I owed money and paid by credit card. I didn’t get a direct deposit for the stimulus so I went to the IRS site this morning.

It took a good while to get into the system (maybe 3-4 minutes). I entered my social and date of birth and got a message that said I was eligible. I entered our AGI, how much I owed in 2019, and banking info. The next screen says, “You have successfully submitted your bank account information. Your payment will be direct deposited into your bank account using the information you provided.” No time frame for when this would happen was given.

I logged back in to see if I would get a different message this time. It took a few minutes again. The message now reads, "You are eligible for the payment. Once we have your payment date, we will update this page. We will deposit your payment to the bank account below [gives bank account number I had entered before]. Updates to your payment are made no more than once a day. We will mail you a letter with additional information on this payment."

It seemed to work fine for us but it would have been nice if they'd provided information on the amount of the deposit and when to expect it.

I don't have my payment and site says:

According to information that we have on file, we cannot determine your eligibility for a payment at this time.

I filed 2018 and 2019 taxes and in both cases used direct deposit. No direct deposit has shown up yet of course.

I entered the information requested. The site indicated that we were eligible for a payment, but they didn't have our banking information, despite our having used the same checking account for direct withdrawal of our 2019 amount due and direct deposit of our 2018 refund.

So I got out the checkbook and entered the routing and account numbers from a check. Unfortunately, when I saw the confirmation screen, I realized that I had omitted the last digit of the account number! It's a "1", so my brain must interpreted it as a vertical-bar divider or something. This obviously didn't happen when I entered the same numbers into TurboTax way back when.

I don't remember seeing any direct contact information on those pages. They'd probably be overloaded anyway. So what now? In the best-case scenario, the account number will turn out to be completely invalid and they'll simply mail a check in due course. I wonder if they try to validate the name/address/SSN of the bank account against the ones on the tax return?

Fortunately we're retired with plenty of resources otherwise, so we don't need the stimulus payment. We'd probably donate it somewhere it would be useful in these times.

OP, thanks for this information. Even though I had direct deposit info on file from 2018 as well as SS payments, the site said they didn't have enough info to process a payment. Entered now.

Same

What's odd is that our 2019 taxes were filed by our accountant a couple of weeks ago, and the IRS already deposited our refund electronically into the account last week!

OTOH surfing around there's a CNBC online article that says if you get the payment status not available message it may only mean the system is overloaded. Which makes sense, given I know the IRS has all the relevant info for our account.
Here's the quote then the link to the entire piece:
The Get My Payment tool is meant to give those eligible for a coronavirus stimulus check information on when they will receive their payment. Instead, many are receiving messages that their payment status is not available. In most cases, this happened because the system was overloaded, Luis Garcia, an IRS spokesperson, told CNBC Make It.

Same experience as everyone else:

Refund in 2018 (direct deposit)
Owed in 2019 (used same bank account to pay)

Had to enter AGI, amount owed (is this just for verification?), and bank details.

Kudos to the IRS for getting this set up in such short order and on-time.
did IRS stop accepting submissions through their website now? i tried entering dob, ss, address and get

Thanks for the link Husky!

I thought this was going to be automatic, but just in case it wasn't, I went to the website. I entered all the requested info and got a "Bank Account Confirmation". It stated "You have successfully submitted your bank account information. Your payment will be direct deposited into your bank account using the information you provided."

I wonder how long it would have taken to get my payment if I had trusted that the system would work as described.

P.S. In both 2018 and 2019 I filed electronically and had to make a payment each year. From that, I assumed that they had my routing number and my checking account number. Apparently not so.

If you're already receiving SS payments through direct deposit to your checking account, isn't this supposed to happened automatically? Do I have to fill out and submit that form with bank routing number, AGI, etc?
My mother is receiving SS payments through direct deposit and she received her stimulus payment today.
Does your mother file tax returns? My mother also receives SS via direct deposit but hasn’t needed to file a return in years. Wondering if hers will get automatically deposited or if I need to visit the website and enter the info

IRS says:
In certain cases, the Get My Payment app will be unable to tell you the status of your payment. You may receive this message for one of the following reasons:
-
-
-
-If you are a SSA or RRB Form 1099 recipient, SSI or VA benefit recipient – the IRS is working with your agency to issue your payment; your information is not available in this app yet.
You can check the app again to see whether there has been an update to your information. Get My Payment data is updated once per day, so there’s no need to check back more frequently.

Bottom line - your Mother should get an automatic direct deposit - but it will take a while longer.

Thanks for the link. Worked like a dream for me and now the IRS has my direct deposit info and I'm just waiting for the funds to show up.

Received this message, "Payment Status Not Available".

Couldn't enter anything else. Last files for 2018, AGI under limits.
Same status.
Filed for 2018 and 2019 already and within limits so the data should be available.
This doesn't inspire confidence.

Site is broken when I tried. “Payment status not available”
Seems from comments above and on Reddit this is a widespread glitch. No deposit in my account either (have always used DirectPay for taxes owed).

I see info in the FAQ about identity verification. It didn’t ask any questions. I have a credit freeze. I wonder if that’s the issue.
