My son is in the same situation. The current news is that they will start to receive their payment sometime next week (April 20th).

I got the same message, and I'm pretty certain I qualify. So keep checking till the message is more definitive.
I also got this. We owed for 2018, haven't filed for 2019. We're eligible for a reduced amount. Don't understand why they can't determine our eligiblity.

I received mine on Monday! This is incredibly helpful since I am newly out of work and frantically looking for new cloud business development opportunities.

Qualification is pretty straightforward, I am surprised there would be a mistake. If you are looking at AGI phase-out ranges note that they are higher if you had any qualifying children during the tax year they used.
You would think. We had one qualifying child in 2018. That should have it phasing out to 0 at $208,000.We got a check for $1,200, which implies an AGI of $184,000. Our AGI exceeded $208K in both 2018 and 2019. Not sure what happened.

Received our $800 overnight. It would have been $350 higher if I hadn't filed '19 taxes already

We plan on using it at our favorite local restaurants once we are able to.

I’ll have to keep the stimulus check threshold in mind when planning our 2020 earnings. Does TaxCaster already support it? ;)
Travelgeek - Is your understanding it will true up in 2020 when file taxes if income during year is now eligible? Have a situation personally where we file taxes separate...wife qualifies and I don't. Because I claimed child this year, we received the $1,200 basis her income. Wondering if in 2020 if she claims our now two children, if that we would now be eligible for the difference?

Thanks!

Mine showed pending this morning (Wednesday 4/15).

My issue is that it's smaller than expect, MFJ, 2 kids, so that should be $3400. 1 was born this year and doesn't even show up on 2019 return, so I expected to see $2900, but actually got $2400. The older 1 was claimed in both 2018 and 2019, though I don't think they've processed my 2019 return yet.

Supposedly they are sending out explanation letters within 15 days of payment, so I guess I wait to see what it says. I hope there is a way to request a correction, I'd rather not wait a year to claim the larger credit in my 2020 taxes.

We received $2400 today. 2019 AGI <$150k, 2018 AGI >$200K, and 2019 tax return had been filed.

Would you be eligible to get the 2nd kid added when filing 2020 taxes? So you get +$1,000 (500 for each kid). That part isn't clear to me.

So, when the time comes, will they still treat us as "a couple," and make one deposit, using the social security number of the first name of the tax return (my husband)? :confused Or will I be treated as "a person"?? If they have it, the deposit goes into the account they have tax refund direct deposit/debit info for, I believe.

Received mine today... $3400, married filing jointly, 2 kids... daughter born in 2019, submitted 2019 taxes in mid March, received tax return about 2 weeks ago. So they went off 2019 for me, not 2018.

Based on my reading of the bill, it creates a tax credit based on your 2020 status, and authorizes treasury to send advanced payments based on the info on your 2018 or 2019 return. The credit is then reduced by the amount you received, but not less than 0. So essentially you get what they send you early, but it officially shows up on your 2020 return, jerryrigged such that you won't have to pay them back for it if you didnt qualify for the check they sent.

Based on that understanding my 2020 return will show the full credit amount, minus the stimulus check
as an additional credit refundable to me. That seems clear, what isn't clear is if I'll be able to tell the IRS they read my 2018 return wrong and the initial check should have been bigger.

I had a refund direct deposited to my bank account in 2018 but owed a tad in 2019. When I visited https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economi ... t-payments it showed that the IRS did not have direct deposit bank information in their database. So I had to enter it.

Point is, I'd check the link regardless of whether you had a direct deposit refund in the past or not.

I was getting annoyed that our Federal tax refunds were quite slow this year. We were getting a 'bonus' from buying a Prius Prime last Oct.

But, I just received my stimulus payment and it was based on 2018 AGI and not 2019 (despite e-filing 2019 on 3/13/2020). That got us closer to the full $1200, which was a nice way to offset the delay ;)

Apparently I've tried to log in too many times today, all previous attempts were met with the "technical difficulties" error:

I would like to know this as well, but directed more specifically to anyone who is on social security, but who did not have their tax refund directly deposited. If this describes you, have you received your stimulus payment yet? via your SOCIAL SECURITY direct deposit account?

I know I haven’t.

The reason I ask is that I suspect processing the payments is much quicker for the IRS if they can use the tax payer’s income tax return to both confirm their eligibility as well as to disperse their payment directly. It seems to me that if you’re eligible for the payment but don’t usually get a refund, the IRS would have to take the extra step of accessing your Social Security records to obtain the direct deposit information.

Please prove me wrong.

Based on all the posts above, the IRS seems to be first processing payments for those who have filed tax returns and received refunds via direct deposit (regardless of whether receiving SS). The rest of us, including those who filed and had tax due (regardless of whether receiving SS), or are non-filers receiving SS, will have to wait a few days longer.

We got ours today as well - all of $552. We are MFJ, 1 dependent and our 2018 AGI was used since we haven't filed our 2019 taxes yet (we wouldn't have qualified otherwise).

DH and I will use the $52 allocated to us adults to support our local favorite local restaurant or donate to charity. We will leave our 17 year old daughter to decide what she wants to do with her $500.

Thanks, MtnBiker! I was able to confirm that via the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/econom ... aymentnot scroll down to “Why am I getting Payment status not available?”

Fourth reason: “If you are a SSA or RRB Form 1099 recipient, SSI or VA recipient - the IRS is working with your agency to issue your payment; your payment information is not available in this app yet.”

Good news. 👍

hopefully you'll be getting yours shortly too!

I was quite surprised to see a payment in my checking account. I did a Roth conversion last December (poor timing) and was over the AGI limit. I did my 2019 taxes in early March, but I guess because I paper filed they have not fully processed the return yet. I received a payment based on my 2018 AGI.

As a follow up to my "technical difficulties" error, it appears I am not alone.

"Zero filers" aka people who neither owed taxes nor received a refund are getting locked out of the IRS site. Say if you only had unearned income from a traditional IRA to ROTH conversion below the standard deduction, you would neither owe nor be owed and refund. Thus the "zero filer". So far it looks like we will have to either wait for the IRS to modify the "get my payment" portal, or wait for a mailed check. Hoping they fix the portal. :annoyed

The portal for Non-Filers has been opened for a while. "Get My Payment" portal, which went live yesterday, is for filers. You are not locked out, you merely entered the wrong door.

I received $757.50 in stimulus funds on April 15. I thought I was going to get the full $1,200. I completely forgot AGI is calculated before itemized deductions.

We are “zero filers” because we had our 2019 refund applied to this year’s taxes. So far, I haven’t found a way to account for that.

I walked someone through the "Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here" website this morning. It wasn't too bad, although it was plenty bad enough for anyone who isn't online-business-savvy, 1040-EZ-level tax-savvy, and isn't a native English speaker. Anyway the portal is open and functioning. There are several aspects of it that could be very puzzling to people, one being that you are told that you are using a private tax-prep service for part of the process, and that part is constantly asking you for things like your 2018 AGI when you had already told it that you did not file in 2018. When read completely the instructions eventually tell you to enter 0 if you did not file in 2018.

Anyway, yes, the portal for non-filers is up and running and accepts information.

As for us, the status website told us that the payment had been made on 4/15, and it appeared in our account on 4/16. I don't know if there was any connection, but our local bank's website--the one that received the payments--was squirrelly all yesterday, sometimes saying it was down when it was actually up, sometimes saying it was up when it was down.

Just to clarify, we are not non-filers. We filed, and had neither any owed tax, nor any refund as we didn't pay any taxes in throughout the year. Our ROTH conversion was below the standard deduction with no other income, resulting in no net tax liability. We have to enter info on the normal portal, and when we try to put our info in, we get the technical difficulties error.

I received a $1200 deposit in my checking account yesterday. Based on the IRS Status website, it is for my mother, who died in September, 2019. I filed her 2019 taxes in February, 2020, including the form that said that I was entitled to her tax refund, as her sole heir, and listing my checking account to receive the refund. I received that refund in March.
I am horrified that the stimulus process is so messed up, when there are so many who are desperate for this money. I want to donate it, but first I want to be sure that I will at least have a warning before the government tries to take it back.

I wouldn't donate it just yet. There are articles from yesterday that talk about payments going to deceased individuals:
https://www.google.com/search?client=fi ... nder+CARES

one article (marketwatch) says:
“People may have returned it, but they didn’t need to,” said Nina Olson, the former head of the Taxpayer Advocate Service, an internal IRS watchdog. The same goes for the $1,200 stimulus payments, as far as Olson sees it. The CARES Act stimulus bill contained no “clawback” provisions for stimulus checks sent to a dead person, meaning the agency can’t retrieve the money after it’s been handed out, she said. “Congress didn’t write around that this year,” she said.

but another article (usatoday) said:
However, it is not immediately clear what will happen with those who are receiving checks for deceased relatives and loved ones during the COVID-19 crisis.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the IRS did not have guidelines on its website for payments sent in error to the deceased. The IRS did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment.

and finally,
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Internal Revenue Service didn’t have guidelines on its website for economic impact payments sent in error to the deceased.

Nor were they willing to comment on the projected number of payments “mistakenly sent to ineligible recipients and whether the agency has a system in place to reclaim the payments,” according to Just The News, a conservative-leaning media outlet.

if I were you, I'd wait for more guidance to be issued by the IRS.

Just as long as we have the routing and checking account numbers on our 2019 tax form we'll get the money direct deposited?
Same situation here. Paid in with account numbers on 2019 tax form. I filed with online with TurboTax. I get SS but wife does not. If they have it set up right we should get it direct deposit. Time will tell.
Update. Went to IRS site and checked on mine. I ended up having to put my checking account info in. So unless you got a refund they probably won't put it your account unless you set it up to on the IRS site.

When I visited https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economi ... t-payments it showed that the IRS did not have direct deposit bank information in their database. So I had to enter it.

Point is, I'd check the link regardless of whether you had a direct deposit refund in the past or not.
I had the same experience- direct deposit in 2018, paid in 2019 . Had to add banking info as well. I get SSA direct deposit and I pay estimated payments online pulled from same bank account.

I gave 1/2 of mine to my college aged kids. Both were left out of the bill, and are unable to work and or have reduced work hours, so I figured they need the money...
