Keep old student loan billing statements?

Post by schrute » Mon Dec 02, 2019 8:53 pm

I paid off a student loan in 2017-ish. It was a small amount, only a few thousand. The servicer sold my loan to a new servicer and I ended up paying it off with them. I had an issue with the old servicer that they report incorrectly on my credit report many years ago, I ended up getting it resolved.

Does it make sense to keep the old billing statements? I figure the sheet that says I paid off the loan is really all I need at this point.

Scan them and keep the pdf.
Keep a paper copy of the final two statements.

These student loan people come back years later and try to claim payments. You can fight it but it is MUCH easier if you have documentation.
