HSA move, does it change the use date?

Post by azianbob » Fri Nov 15, 2019 11:20 am

I currently have a HSA with mybenefitwallet, which was opened in 2018 in conjunction with my HDHP plan.

We are now moving to my wife's benefits (better than mine with new job) so I am will most likely move my HSA to Fidelity (everyone says its free and good).

But will that change my date of HSA opened to 2019? As the whole balance will move over to Fidelity. Or can I still use my receipts from 2018-2019 and claim money from the HSA later? If so, is there extra documentation I need to retain?

From IRS Publication 969

"An HSA that is funded by amounts rolled over from ... another HSA is established on the date the prior account was established."

I think you're good.

You should always maintain complete documentation including records of the transfer.
