Reporting accrued interest paid in H&R Block

Post by indexfundfan » Mon Feb 18, 2019 9:37 pm

I bought and sold some T-notes in the secondary market with Schwab last year.

The interest reported in the 1099INT included the accrued interest paid to the seller. The amount of the accrued interest paid was listed separately in the "Accrued Interest Paid on Purchases" section (not provided to the IRS).

How do I account for the accrued interest paid? Is there a specific box in the tax return I should use? Or should I simply subtract the accrued interest paid from the total interest reported?

Thank you.
