Firefox

Post by D Newton »

I recently got a new computer and downloaded Firefox and my bookmarks. However, most of my bookmarks now do not appear in the sidebar...only there icons. The name (identification) of the bookmarks does not show.

Any ideas how i can resolve this.

Thanks in advance.

Is it only an issue with the Sidebar?
If you click the Bookmarks pull-down menu at the top, do they show up there?

CyberBob,
Yes - it is only in the sidebar. Just the icons show...no text. And the icons are just generic...not the unique symbol.
Wierd.

Which version?

Post by earlyout »

I am using Firefox 2.0 with Vista and bookmarks in the sidebar are the text explanations, not the icons. I could not find anything that would switch between icons and text descriptions.

Are you using Vista? Which version of Firefox?

Bookmarks? Try http://del.icio.us/ and divorce your bookmarks from your browser and your computer.

None of the issues at that URL are a showstopper. Which are you referring to?

Nothing there that would stop me replacing the malware that is IE with Firefox.

Are YOU using Firefox with Vista? If so, are YOU having any problems with it?

No, that's why I asked what issues you were referring to. None of the issues listed at that URL were above slight annoyances at best.

I won't be moving to Vista until all the issues are resolved.

Since I know you run Ubuntu, I was just curious...do you prefer Thunderbird rather than Evolution for email?

I haven't looked at Evolution.

For more than 10 yrs I used mostly Juno for email. Juno started doing only webmail for the free account & I grew to like webmail a lot. Lately I've been using Gmail & I like it much better than Juno webmail. With Verizon dsl came their email. They delete anything more than 30 days old so I thought I'd chk T-bird. Compared to outlook express it was wonderful!

I've been using FF (2.0.0.x and 2 days ago 2.0.0.4) on Vista RTM since late October and I've had no issues. Love it!

That FreeBSD logo is so cool I had to use it. I use Vista 90+% of the time, Ubuntu on my home server and keep tabs on the FreeBSD side of the world. Lots of toys. Great time to be alive and into technology.

FIrefox Bookmarks

Post by Target2019 »

I installed version 2 of FF. Unfortunately Bookmarks Synchronizer 3 doesn't work with this version 2.

I looked around and found Foxmarks, which lets you set up a backup area on their server.

If you have your own FTP server (preferred), you can follow the directions here to set up private access.

Loaded and running

Have loaded Firefox 2.0.0.4 - currently running on my Vista machine and conducting operational testing [and right now, the spell checker add-on is NOT working].

What spell-check add-on? There's a built-in spell-check in FF 2. Maybe it and the add-on conflict.

Dictionary for spell checker

Post by cfs »

Bylo, I was talking about the dictionary for spell checking [to spell check email, to spell check forum notes such as this one, and to spell check blogging], should be able to add it to the toolbar [just like I did with the IE Google Toolbar] but no go.

It spell checks as you type. No need for an extraneous icon.
