What's Your Experience with Calif Prop 60/90 Property Tax Xfers?

Post by TimeRunner »

On another unrelated thread, there was a brief side discussion of Calif property taxes and various possibilities of transferring property tax basis for owners 55 and older. (One link: http://boe.ca.gov/proptaxes/prop60-90_55over.htm ). It appears this is allowed "intra-county" and also INTO currently eight named counties from any other Calif county.

Anyone done this once?
Anyone done this twice (as a result of a disability, which then permits a second transfer)?
Anyone done any legal maneuvering such as selling their house to a parent who then transfers their property tax basis to your former home as they move in with you, or any other interesting possibilities? The FAQs at link: http://boe.ca.gov/proptaxes/prop60-90_55over.htm#FAQs , mention, for example, that "Thus, you can own and occupy an interim residence. As long as you do not file a claim to transfer the base year value to this interim residence, this purchase will not factor into your eligibility to ultimately transfer your base year value." (as long as the other requirements are met)

Just curious, I have no current need to do any of this, but I don't hear it mentioned much. Thanks!
