Mapfre Insurance - Boston Area

Post by vpm8889 » Fri Oct 26, 2018 6:48 pm

I shopped around to see if I could save some money on my car insurance and home insurance. An independent agent gave me a quote with Mapfre Insurance that will save me $431/year, my wife $409/year on her insurance and save us $295/ year on home insurance.

Does anyone currently have, or have had Mapfre insurance? If so, what are/were your opinions of them as an insurance carrier? I am not sure if they are nationwide, so that's why I specified the Boston area.

My agent uses them for my auto insurance. Been with them for a few years- very good rates, and well rated company, if you've heard of Commerce Insurance, they are the same company (Maphre markets only to agents). Only claim experience was for a new windshield, which went very well.

My agent used different companies for homeowners insurance. For some reason he didn't get a good quote for it...

If you google Mapfre, you will find that they tend to be rated among the worst insurers. Just my 2 cents.

I'm in the Boston area and have used Mapfre for years.
They seem fine.

This thread is now in the Personal Finance (Not Investing) forum (insurance).

Did you have Amica quote it? This can be done on their website. They are also very popular in the Northeast.

Go to amica.com and quote online or call them. They don't sell through agents.

They are the top rated by JD Power in your region.

We've had auto insurance with them for many, many years. Two claims. One windshield, one body damage. Both went easily and smoothly.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just got a quote and they would be $990 more a year just for the autos.

Ah, that's no good. I have a friend who uses MAPFRE. She hasn't complained, but no idea if she's had any claims.

I've had them for several years through our independent agent when our old company was bought and the independent let us know that they were raising everyone's rates. Mapfre has been great with us. We have had a number of claims including a totaled vehicle.

MAPFRE bought Commerce Insurance. My auto and umbrella are through them. I went through my credit union to get the insurance. No one else can come close to their quotes. I have no issues with them whatsoever.

I was an AMICA customer for over 12 years. I had everything through them. They wouldn’t give me home insurance when I moved to the Cape (even though I am 92 feet above sea level). I had to shop around for home insurance. My credit union gave me the best deal on all of my policies so I dropped AMICA.

I was a customer for 8 years. I had several claims on them -- auto and home, I think 2 each. They always paid, and gave me no reason to change them. They became a little costlier last year so I switched.

Have used Commerce/Mapfre for home/auto/umbrella for years now with no issues. They do give discounts for AAA membership and donating to the Pan Mass Challenge, so those can be worthwhile if you end up going with them.

I had Mapfre for some time through an independent agent. I have a Rhode Island waterfront house, so I was glad to have any homeowner's insurance. *I don't know why waterfront affects homeowners when the policy that seems at risk to me is flood.

Then last year AMICA, which has my car and umbrella policies, started writing homeowners policies in this area again and I changed to them and saved hundreds of dollars. I forget how much exactly, maybe $600.

If you get an AMICA quote, be sure to determine if it takes into account the dividend you get back annually as that is substantial.

Have had them for years through my independent agent. Several claims, including one total, and no problems at all. We get the AAA discount and a discount for my wife's car for low mileage. I like them.
This time, like all times, is the best of times if we but know what to do with it.
