I'm fortunate to have an employer that covers the entire premium for my high deductible health plan. $1500 deductible, $2500 annual out of pocket maximum. They also contribute $500 to my HSA.

That said, I'm taking about six months off work later this year and haven't yet figured out the health insurance situation for that. I'm 28M and healthy so it shouldn't be *too* bad.

My cost of premiums is ~$5,400/year.

Employer-sponsored HSA plan with $7,000 family deductible. $1,200 is contributed by employer towards HSA. Max out of pocket cost is $7,000/yr.

I'm a partner at a law firm so I pay full freight. This year my premiums for myself/spouse are $22,188/year for an HDHP BCBS PPO. No firm contribution to premiums, no firm contribution to the HSA, I pay everything.

$3000 deductible, $12,700 OOP maximum. Most in-network costs are covered 90% after deducible, out of network 70% . Prescription coverage ($15 generic/$35 formulary/$50 nonformulary) only kicks in after the deductible is satisfied.

We have two regular PPO options with different levels of copays, where the premiums are only modestly more. But I've found that (i) our deductible gets eaten up very quickly by a script for an expensive drug where a manufacturer's coupon gets applied and treated as part of our costs, so I never have to pay actual cash for most of the deductible, (ii) 10% of most doctor visits and labs is significantly less than the fixed co-pays under the regular PPO options, and (iii) I really like using the HSA as an additional way to invest tax-advantaged.

I have looked at the federal marketplace the past couple of years before re-upping for my firm's plan and have found only very high costs for much worse coverage.

Premium 3500/yr for 2. Dental preventative 100% covered. 20$ copay to see dr. It is through the DH small business employer. Insurance much better than our high deductable plan when I was at megacorp.
