Bogleheads Are Better in the Morning

Post by John151 » Sat Jun 23, 2018 9:47 pm

I usually login to Bogleheads around ten in the morning, and then again around ten in the evening. In the morning, I usually find ten or twelve posts that I want to read, but only two or three in the evening.

Have you had a similar experience? Is it because most posts are posted in the morning? Or is it that posts posted in the morning are simply more interesting than posts posted in the afternoon or evening? I don’t think my interests change that much during the course of the day.

People use the internet while at work, not while at home with their families. I've never seen any statistics but I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of that happens early in the day, when employees are drinking coffee, "catching up on email", and similar start of day things. If you have a burning question you thought of last night at home, you will probably want to post it earlier in the day as well.

If you're not in the Eastern Standard Time Zone the effect is even more exacerbated. If you're on the west coast then 10am for you is 1pm for 47% of Americans who live in the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

This site is fairly entertaining but it's mostly good info for people new to investing. I'm more drawn to Consumer Issues now.
Lots of other good forums for entertainment out there depending on your interests.
Reddit seems to have just about every topic imaginable although I haven't dug too far into it.

I think it varies. Though, I have seen an increase in the same types of questions being asked over and over.

Sunday morning, before church, seems to be a great time for scanning the Bogleheads forum. I see a lot of great posts here during that time.

I see no difference dependent on time of day. I think your perception is based on during the morning you would rather use the internet than work while in the evening (especially at bedtime :happy ) you'd rather do something better than look at Bogleheads.

Interesting... What time is it for the other 53% of Americans who live in the Eastern Standard Time Zone?

It's that thing that working people "do."

I think people genrally get more cranky as the day wears on so mornings are best for posts as well as responses.

Posts from later in the day are less interesting or insightful than morning posts? I was going to let this thread slide until I realized that those were some big words for somebody posting at 8:47 in the evening.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

This thread is now in the Local Chapters and Bogleheads Community forum (Bogleheads).

Consider this forum reaches world-wide. "Morning" in one timezone is not "morning" elsewhere.
