Chase $300 bonus for a new saving account

Post by mk1039 » Wed Apr 25, 2018 8:46 pm

i have received mail from chase saying that if i open a saving account with min 25k for 90 days, i'll get $300.

i used this deal few years back and then closed the saving account once the deal requirement was over...so thinking of opening this account again to get this 300 dollars. :moneybag

is there any harm in it or negative side effect of doing this ? :confused i already have checking account with them.

No harm. I've been opening/closing Chase savings and checking accounts annually for the past 3-4 years. In my case, I go for the savings a/c promo of $15,000 for $200.

They don't hard pull your credit as long as you decline overdraft protection but they do a chexsystems inquiry. For checking accounts at least. It's not a big deal, but certain banks don't like to see a large number of recent inquiries.

Please avoid doing business with Chase.
I had opened a new savings account with Chase 3 week back, they keep rejecting incoming transfer to my new Chase account citing fraud and other sundry excuses such as inability to verify sufficient funds; they even locked out my online access. After an hour long call with Chase customer service where I was transferred between four agents, I decided it was not worth $300, I am closing out the account tomorrow.

Be careful. I did this promo (15k) and they shut down my accounts and froze it, took me 2 months and a million phone calls to finally get my money back. They demanded I go in branch in person to clear the funds while i m overseas.said my 15 k inbound ach transfer was deemed “suspicious.” I did nothing wrong btw, just tx to satisfy terms of the promo. Will never deal w chase again.

i agree with the issues mentioned by the above users with chase. i faced some similar issues while opening the checking/saving account last time and was very surprised by their behavior. so i stopped using chase for normal use and only use it when i have specific need.

so that's why i was just thinking of opening the saving account for this deal only and will close it once i am done.

Most of the algorithms chase uses deals with risk of people like the op who want to open and then close immediately. It doesnt catch everyone. If you have a history of open and closing you might get flagged. It may be a bigger issue if you open and close w a low net worth which may trigger as well.
Ive never had issues in 20 years getting shut out. Probably because i used the system as intended.

What has low net worth anything to do with fraud detection algorithm?

You can get a capital one bonus ($700). I think you must deposit 30k but there's no minimum time. I put mine in, got the 700 and transferred it the next day.

The best CapOne deal that I see is a max of $600 on a $100k outlay:

I opened checking + savings with Chase about 18 months ago to get the $300+$200 offer.
The agent was supernice; everything was taken care of in minutes and I never had a problem with depositing, nor withdrawing.

I took back the 15k in savings after the promotion required 6 months and forgot about it. A couple of months ago I was charged a $5 fee for low deposit amount in savings. Went back to the bank to close the savings account and the same gentleman not only closed it, but also refunded me the fee.
I can't say anything but positive about them and I'll keep the checking account open.

This was my experience 2 months ago when I decided to move some money around to reap the two bonuses. I had a check from my brokerage and didn't have to do any of that new fangled wire transfer stuff :happy so maybe that is why it was smooth. A short time after the direct deposit to the checking account that bonus was paid. Still waiting the required time for the saving bonus.
To the OP, I know there was some language in the bonus about people who had received the bonus previously not being eligible. I don't recall it enough to know if it applies to you, but you might want to make sure you are eligible.

Just got my $200 bonus today, 90 days to the day. Easy stuff. Can't wait to redo next year.

I've done Chase 6 years in a row. This year I got a letter a week after opening the account in branch saying they were closing the accounts and sending me my money back. I fortunately had already ACH pushed to the account and when they returned my money it included the $300 checking bonus.

I got the same thing in the mail in the last week. Don't you have to go into the branch though to open the account? That was the downside for me. I don't want to sit there and hear a sales presentation.

I logged into my Chase online account and saw this as an offer. It took 10 min to apply for it and received email confirmation of new account, etc. So it does not look like going to a branch is required.

Thanks. I see that too on the Chase site. I remember getting it in the mail once and it saying I had to go into the branch.

Ugh. Hate it when they outsmart us. Maybe you can update us when you (try to) open an account next year?

I'm afraid to try again TBH. I have over 400,000 Ultimate Rewards points in my credit card account and I'm paranoid if I try again that they'll close all of my CC accounts and confiscate my points.
