TaxAct Bug with multiple state returns

Post by panhead » Tue Apr 17, 2018 12:14 pm

This is a bit late but I just found a bug while helping a friend do his return. Initially, I did two returns, one for myself and one for a friend. We both live and work in the same state so we used the same state module. The returns were completed and filed.

I later did a return for a friend who lives in the same state as myself and my other friend, but works in another state. As such we needed the other states taxact module. I downloaded and installed the module and finished his return and filed it.

I then opened up my return, and noticed that it said I owed taxes to the state where my 2nd friend lived! Taxact automatically installed the new state module to both of the returns I had previously done and transferred the federal info to them. This was easily resolved by manually removing the additional state module from the previous two returns.

So, probably not a huge issue for most people, but still a bug to be aware of!
