HSA contribution limit - partial year family, partial year self

Post by jane1 » Thu Mar 22, 2018 9:34 am

Spouse & I had HDHP (HSA eligible) coverage through his job from January-April. Starting May 1, spouse had self-only HDHP (HSA eligible) but I had non-HSA eligible plan for the rest of 2017 (& in 2018). How much combined are we allowed to contribute for 2017?

Is my understanding correct regarding coming up with max contribution limit
Jan - 6750
Feb - 6750
Mar - 6750
Apr - 6750
May - 3400
Jun - 3400
Jul - 3400
Aug - 3400
Sep - 3400
Oct - 3400
Nov - 3400
Dec - 3400
Total contribution limit for 2017 = (6750*4 + 3400*8)/12 = 4516.67
Is this correct? Tax software isn't helping with this.

Thanks!
