Job offer. Supplemental retirement (tax deferred annuity plan). How valuable is it?

Post by Michael123 » Tue Feb 13, 2018 3:42 pm

Hi folks,

I just got a pretty unexpected job offer.

Pay increase is rather negligible - about a 3 % bump.

It hopes to be way less stress which I am very interested in doing.

Most of the benefits are better but I have an important question?

I haven’t had time yet to look into it but how much value should be placed on the tax deferred annuity plan? The company is a non profit.

It offers a defined contribution plan 401k but I am perfectly clear on that.

How does it work? Would you consider it when weighing whether to accept an offer?

Thank you,

You probably need to ask a couple of questions.

I once had a supplemental retirement plan with a govt employer that did not pay into social security. It required a 5% mandatory (plus 1% optional) contribution, fully matched by the employer. It was classified as a 401(a) plan.
