Let's say I will do a work on my computer for a firm in another state and send it by email and they pay me by check. Like independent contractor, on an as needed basis. I do not be an employee of them and I never go there. During tax time next year do i need to make tax return to that state?
Does your answer change if that other state is a no income tax state such as FL NV TX or WY?

It sounds as if the work is being done in your state of residence and you'd need to file a return there, not in the remote state.

It depends on which state is the other state. Depending on the nature of the work, these five states may want a piece of your work- New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Nebraska.
