TurboTax Deluxe Online for 2017

Hi, I saw an add for a "sale" for Deluxe online for 39.99 so I went and paid online. (You have to start the return to be able to get to the pay screen and it was convoluted.) I will be doing it online for the first time. I have always used Deluxe and sometimes had a few securities sales. But I just noticed that it is saying that it doesn't support Form 1099-B or capital gains reporting on Deluxe, only Premier. Is that possible?

You got screwed by TurboTax. In past years people were upset because TT Deluxe download did the 1099-B thing, but TT Deluxe Online did not. At that time lots of folks blew off TT and started using HRBlock instead.

So to answer your question, yes, it is possible.

Perhaps they will offer you an "upsell" :)

You can use the Basic download version for Schedule D.

Or you can switch to another tax software.

Exactly. Turbotax is the slimiest software company I've seen. I switched to H&R Block when they they dropped key forms to force customers to pay more, and decided that you had to give Intuit a copy of your tax return even to print it--on your own printer!

H&R Block is just as easy to use, much cheaper, imports TurboTax data, and I don't have to take a shower to get rid of the icky feel.

My strategy:
Use turbo tax to calculate taxes, comparing it to my own spreadsheet and making sure that everything was counted for, then file with Taxact! :D

According to TT web site, if you go to the ask questions part, it leads you to the info that all download/CD versions handle all forms. There is a list for each version, and Deluxe has all I need, including A,B,C,D and more.

This is exactly what I mentioned: The ONLINE version is different from the DOWNLOAD/CD version.

I plan to get TT Deluxe from Costco when their sales begin. Does the download/CD version of TT Deluxe allow imports from TDAmeritrade and InteractiveBrokers into Schedule D? I guess I could manually enter all trades but import would be nice.

Years ago, TT Deluxe download version downloaded 1099-B 1099-DIV from TDAmeritrade. I don't know about Interactive Brokers. I don't know about TT for 2017. I've moved on to HRBlock tax software.

I have the download version of TT Deluxe for 2017. TD Ameritrade is in the list of financial institutions for downloads; Interactive Brokers is not. About 300 financial institutions are listed. Will they be there when forms are released in early Feb? No way to tell.

I have used an accountant for taxes in the past, but serious about switching to DIY using TurboTax (or another software, if easier/more clear to use). I understand that TurboTax can online import W-2 and year-end tax statements from brokerages like Schwab and Vanguard. Correct?
What about previous year's data import? Can that be online imported from accountant's software? I will try to get PDF of last years returns from the accountant. Any recommendations?
Anything else to watch out for when switching? -- THANKS!
