i am working as contractor with bank of america in IT for few months now and they are expected to offer me full time soon.
i need help from you guys on how can i better negotiate on a full time offer. i have over ten years experience but it has been mostly in consulting...so i know full time pay is less than contract pays (in general)....but how should i get the best out of this negotiation with bank of america on a full time offer and what things i should keep in mind or focus on while talking to them... etc...Thanks
Job offer negotiation - help
Re: Job offer negotiation - help
I have not been in this situation, but I would crunch some numbers. What do you fork out now for health insurance, "extra" Social Security payments (are they double for self-employed people, I have the dim and perhaps incorrect idea), etc. to at least be sure you aren't taking a pay cut.
I think it's reasonable once given the offer to ask for time to look it over financially compared to your current situation.

First, you need to determine the market value of your job. Secondly, use Glassdoor to lookup what BoA is paying for your job; it should be listed.
This will prepare you to negotiate. Once everything has been discussed and offered, evaluate their package. Consider how much over time you’re going to work and use that as justification to increase your counter offer.

How are you even thinking about negotiating before you have an offer?
Wait until you get the offer, compare to market, THEN consider negotiation. You're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

+1 on this advice. Definitely wait for the offer before you attempt to negotiate.lakja wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2017 2:18 pm First, you need to determine the market value of your job. Secondly, use Glassdoor to lookup what BoA is paying for your job; it should be listed.

With large corporations and organizations, in my experience over the decades, it is very common that there is little or no negotiation on such job offers. Be prepared to evaluate the offer -- then it may be "take it or leave it". You might, however, be able to learn at what points/frequency salary increases and/or promotions are given and evaluated.
Job security is usually better for employees than contractors, as are benefits - such as health insurance. There may be others as well.
