margin loan interest and HMRC (UK tax)

Post by jw50 » Sat Nov 11, 2017 4:51 am

Can anybody clarify margin loan interest and UK tax treatment.

Some stock brokers offer margin loan, one in particular offer an interest rate of less than 2%!

I just wonder what is HMRC's position with respect to margin loan interest.

For example, If I buy a FTSE 100 company share which I have NO connection; can I set the margin loan interest against dividend or capital gain (or interest) of my investment?

Thank you.

Julian

PS: I do NOT want to get into a debate whether margin loan is EVER a good idea.
