another 2 comma club member

Post by soccerrules »

OK-- excited to pull up my Vanguard account yesterday and see that extra comma. Such a meaningful punctuation.

Hate to be a little braggy about it , but it does feel pretty good. I had been waiting for it to happen and then get to show my wife on the app.
Her response "took us awhile" (kill joy :? )

As others have commented, not really a milestone easily shared with family members or friends. Thanks for allowing me to share here. :beer

Glad to be "in the club".

It is actually quite easy to share financial milestones with family, friends, the postman, the grocery clerk, etc. Some people just can't help themselves. For the rest of us, it begins and ends with telling the spouse. I want everybody else to think I'm broke (and fired instead of FIRE'd).

Not only does our family know our two comma status ( my brother and h's brother help give us investment advice and are in similar circumstances ) but many of my work friends do also since they work on our estate plan and have worked on the administration of estates for my family members. No secrets here.

Moreover most of my friends are likewise situated and my daughter's college friends include children of a movie star, an NFL team owner and the head of a major entertainment company. We are small potatoes in comparison

Congrats! Though we hit 2 commas in Net Worth last year, and will probably get there in portfolio-only next year, it'll be a LONG time before any single account of ours has two commas.

Vanguard has the "Balances and Holdings" section where you can add in and track your balances from other accounts. Not sure if it "counts" or not for you...but you can see those commas on one login/platform that way!! :D

It'll still be years before we see 2 commas...anywhere. :?

I don't know why a billionaire wants to hang out at this web site. A boglehead can do better financially than average people but impossible to get to billionaire in his/her lifetime.

I do wonder if we will see the first Trillionaire in my lifetime. I don't think Gates and Buffet are going to make it barring some massive inflation. Maybe Zuckerberg- he still has a lot of time for things to compound.

Hey Runner, great question.
I was referring to invested assets in the "market" not our Net Worth. I actually hit the 2 comma club a week of 2 earlier because I have a separate 401K not connected to Vanguard. It was just really cool to see the $1,000,---. on our Vanguard Account that holds (IRA's, Taxable and 403B).

Thank you all for helping me celebrate our success.

I too recently tripped over this mark without house equity. Been lurking for years and need to say that it would have taken a lot longer had I not found this resource. I would like to ask a question if I may, is it incorrect to treat house equity almost like bonds as a % of stocks to bonds?

That's what I was thinking: You must have hit the $1M net worth milestone a while back. I do agree that it does somehow feel better seeing the two commas on one account rather than at the bottom of a spreadsheet.

Congratulations!

Congrats. Looking forward to crossing that threshold of net worth of all accounts in approx two years. It will be a few more before I can see it in just Vanguard. But thanks to compounding, they say the second million is much easier than the first. :beer

The remarkable thing about this much invested is how much it can earn every year all by itself without adding any additional outside funds. Given how hard many people sweat and toil to earn even a modest living, having a $ million or more invested fairly conservatively and earning $50,000+ per year from it while you do nothing is particularly striking to me. I hope folks that were born with or inherited this kind of money fully appreciate just how insanely lucky they were to do so.

It took 28 years to hit $1M, I just turned 52.

I think had I found BH's many years ago, I could have gotten here quicker. Looking forward to tracking to the next milestone, $1.5M and then hopefully $2M. :beer

Thanks Czeckers.
I could go back and try and figure it out and maybe I will, but think I hit $1M in net worth about 5-6 years ago. FYI I don't count my 529's, cars, or household possessions in my Net Worth. Just taxable and tax deferred money in my accounts and house equity. (some might say I should count 529's and cars, idk)

I track my overall portfolio in Personal Capital, so that's where I'll see it cross the magic number. $154k to go!
