Do you get COLA's on your Soc Security when restricting your application for Spousal Benefits?

Post by dollarsaver » Tue Oct 03, 2017 11:23 am

Hi

I suspended my SS at age 66 to receive DRC's. When my wife restricts her application to spousal benefits only ( at the same time I resume my benefits) will she get the COLA's that have been added onto my PIA from my age 66 to 69 . I know she gets 50%. Or does she start spousal benefits in 2 years at 50% my 2017 PIA. I turned 66 June 2017.

Hope you can help!! thanks in advance

Everyone's PIA gets modified every year there is a COLA. Yes, unless she claims before her FRA she will always get 50% of your then current PIA.
JW
ps: Unless you are confused what a PIA is? It's your full retirement age amount not your benefit itself.

You get a COLA but you may not see any increase in the net amount of your check after Medicare Part B premium is deducted.
