Heads up, US law has changed. Placing or removing a credit freeze will be free after September 20, 2018.

Please review, as the date is calculated from the date the legislation was signed into law. See my post here: Re: Free to freeze and unfreeze your credit report

Wiki article - Credit freeze
Re: Wiki article - Credit freeze
Hi - can we add the following to the Wiki list of agencies with whom people may want to place a freeze on sharing their personal info:
1. NCTUE, a credit bureau for telecom and utility payments, as referenced in this thread: viewtopic.php?p=4292705#p4292705
Link to NCTUE: https://www.nctue.com/Consumers
2. "The Work Number", an agency that gives out salary history, as referenced here: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2017/11/how ... y-history/
In addition to freezing reports, the following apparently don't allow freezing but allow a free copy of one's report to see if anyone has attempted to use your health or rx insurance, or pass checks.
3. https://www.mib.com/request_your_record.html, and agency that keeps track of health insurance (referenced in Consumer Reports Article)
4. https://www.rxhistories.com/for-consumers/ for prescription drug info
5. Check processing companies (from Consumer Reports Article)
a. https://www.askcertegy.com/FACT.jsp
b. https://www.earlywarning.com/
c. https://getassistance.telecheck.com/con ... eport.html
Thanks!

Re: Wiki article - Credit freeze
I'm bumping this thread because my security podcast, GRC | Security Now!,* made a very strong point that we now have a fourth major player in the credit reporting business, Innovis.
In addition to the "big three" - Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion - add Innovis to your list of credit companies to freeze.
I just froze my credit online here: Add or Manage a Security Freeze | Innovis I was sent a confirmation email, which will be followed up by a letter in the mail containing the unlock PIN.
I also requested a copy of my credit report online: Order Your Innovis Credit Report | Innovis and was sent a confirmation email. The actual report will be mailed to me.
Innovis is already in the wiki. See: Credit freeze
* Discussed in Episode #834 "Life: Hanging by a PIN", but I don't see the transcripts for this episode. Some details are in the show notes.

Is ChexSystems included? That is another important one, it is used by many banks when opening new accounts:LadyGeek wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 8:30 am I'm bumping this thread because my security podcast, GRC | Security Now!,* made a very strong point that we now have a fourth major player in the credit reporting business, Innovis.

Yes, it's in the "Credit Reporting Companies" table. I just added the link to their credit freeze info: Credit freeze (Credit reporting companies)
