Equifax is a mess

Post by retire14 » Thu Sep 14, 2017 12:35 pm

I requested their TrustID offer and still did to get a e-mail with a link to enroll. It has been more than 24 hours.

I could not get the report freeze online. Keep saying try again later. I've been trying several times since yesterday.

Anyone else experiences the same fiasco?

Ron Lieber just addressed this at the New York Times. He got some answers from Equifax: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/14/your ... v=top-news

I got through to everyone online except Experian yesterday.

I just called Experian and did it through the automated phone system.

What's the rush anyways? I prefer to let others blaze this trail for me and then hike along the well-worn path in a few weeks. This way these agencies have a chance to work most of their bugs out.

Yes, I'm also still waiting to get that email.

For me it's wanting to tie up loose ends. I don't think it should take several days or more just to get an enrollment email.

As an europeean I wonder if other credit reporting agencies are any better security wise and/or philosophy wise. And if I should take some precautions.

The only thing you can be sure of is that an awful lot of people are doing their best to hack in.

For me, I was able to put a freeze at Equifax in the evening hours when most people are away from their offices. I was able to freeze my credit with no issues at all.

I tried to get my credit report from Equifax this morning (via annualcreditreport.com), and after I entered my info, the site just opened a new browser tab and froze. I think annualcreditreport.com just sends you to the credit agency site (one of the three), so I think it was the equifax site that froze.

Wondering whether that constituted my "one free access" per 12 month period. I'd like to try one of the other two, but I'm afraid to :)

You used the wrong site for a free report. Annualcreditreport.com is the site sponsored by the federal government.

In my opinion, Equifax has made a complete hash of this, first with initial information leak, then with its top executives taking advantage of this, then with the whole TrustedID Premier Product enrollment process, which still hasn't yet been completed, even though I enrolled on Monday, September 11.

We ran into the same issue and finally resorted to certified snail mail.

I got mine free the other day....the Equifax one hung for like 10 mins then connected. Then hung for 10 more.....then got the report.
Dunno why, but the Experian one wouldn't show. Have to snail mail in a form for that one. :?:
