Best courses and books on negotiation

I'm very interested in learning more about negotiation (for personal & professional development).

I have questions along two lines:
1. Any recommended courses that folks have taken? why were they good? (Fee based, free, online or in person).
I'm looking at this one from Stanford - and trying to get the courage to bring this up with my boss (price is $12.5K!):

There are few courses on "Coursera", It's an online courseware site.

The Teaching Company/The Great Courses offers an excellent course "The Art of Negotiating the Best Deal" taught by Seth Freeman, J.D., New York University, http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/ ... -deal.html . The course is currently on sale, ~$60 for a video, ~$40 for an audio. I usually buy their videos, and in addition to coursebooks that come with all courses, I buy transcript books. This particular course has 24 x 0.5-hour lectures packed with valuable information.

this course looks awesome.. price tag not so much... but may check with employer about coverage for these types of things

The best executive education programs in Negotiation will be at Harvard, Northwestern or Stanford because they not only have more faculty that focus on negotiation, but are experienced with executives. They also produce the teaching materials used by other schools. The big advantage of an in person experience is doing the simulated negotiation and the debrief.

Getting to Yes and Getting Past No are classic starting points.

Influence isn't really about negotiation but it is a great book and ahead of its time in packaging behavioral biases in action for popular audiences - it is also a nice reminder of how little of 80's culture aged well.

Coursera recently opened registration for a negotiation class that I believe will begin this Monday. I'm not familiar with the course, but it's taught by a Yale School of Management professor and Herb Cohen is listed as among the guest speakers.

Just finished this book. This guy met with these so called top negotiators at Harvard and schooled them.

I wouldn't spend a dime on any training classes until you read this.

I read getting to yes many years ago, it seemed great and was very helpful. But I still struggled a lot. A year ago I read never split the difference, and it really made a big difference. I would highly recommend that book to anyone.

For the most part he shows that negotiation is all about changing the other persons position, and the best way of doing it is to use psychological methods of influence. It's a great read.
