Purchasing a 2016 Honda CRV EX -- the best out the door price I have found is $25,875.20 -- is this reasonable?
Ladies and Gents,
This is only the second time in my life I have ever negotiated on a vehicle. I am purchasing a 2016 Honda CRV EX. I have played the game via e-mail of negotiating the dealerships down the best I possibly can. The best out the door price (including registration and all fees) I have been able to negotiate down to is $25,875.20. Is this a reasonable price for this vehicle? Thanks.

That strikes me a rather high price- by several thousand at least. Use Edmunds or KBB sites to get a quote.

I would look at the decision another way as well. What can one get for $26,000? In my area, one can get a used Lexus for that amount and it would probably have all the features of that Civic CRV. But maybe you can get an Acura for that price, too?

Oops, I put in the wrong thing. It's a CRV.newbie001 wrote:acura301 wrote:Ladies and Gents,

I meant to put in CRV, not Civic. Please forgive.livesoft wrote:I would look at the decision another way as well. What can one get for $26,000? The EX is the Acura engine and transmission. For a few thousand more you could buy an Acura. While you could buy a used Lexus, i guarantee you it will cost more to repair it, unless you find yourself handy with mechanical repairs.

You also can use the edmunds.com TMV calculator to get an estimate.bigguy8437 wrote:if you use this forum, you can post all of your stats and they will tell you if its a good deal or not

Ironically we bought a 2016 Civic EX in August so I could have helped you with that.

25,875 is pretty reasonable for a 2016 CRV ex. My local high volume Honda dealer has them for $25,397, but who knows what fees they will tack on there. Does that price include tax? If it did then it would be a good deal indeed.
There is a new redesigned CRV coming out on the 21st of this month, so you might want to look at that and make sure you wouldn't rather have the 2017. May also score a better deal if you wait until the 2017s are on the lot.

Complete redesign. The engine vibration issue was allegedly already fixed. I drove a 2016 and couldn't detect anything of the 2015s vibration issues. They are using a new 1.5 turbo on the ex and above trims in 2017, but carry over the 2.4 for the base model. I will likely test drive a new 2017 in later this month, so I guess we will see.Grt2bOutdoors wrote:

How important is that physical volume control knob that comes in the 2017 to you?

No it's not. The CR-V has an I-4 engine and CVT combination. The Acura RDX (the most comparable model) has a V6 with a 6-speed auto transmission.Grt2bOutdoors wrote:The EX is the Acura engine and transmission. For a few thousand more you could buy an Acura. You should be able to get an EX-L for not much more than $26k. The 2017 models are here, and they have lots of 2016 left overs. Wait till Dec. 30 or 31 and you'll get a terrific deal.

My experience has been the following.Get the best price you can find that you know is true.Call around and ask other dealers if they have the exact car you want and will they beat the price.I bought my new 2015 Prius for 18,000 and change and I called 6 other area dealers and none of them would even match the price. If multiple dealers let you walk away, that tells you something.

Sorry to point out all the things you're not getting in a 2016, but use the information to negotiate a better price. Keep telling the salesperson what you're not getting and cut the price.

My mistake I completely overlooked the part of "CRV", thought it said civic. Long day looking at screen.countofmc wrote:No it's not. The CR-V has an I-4 engine and CVT combination. We have been thru this last month; We got our 2016 CRV EX-L, the deal for 28K with everything after signing all the paperwork (local taxes, loan interest, tag, all dealer fees); it was a sweet deal we couldn't pass it ; Normally it would be at $30K I think but because the end of the year and new vehicle rolling in we got it at discount I'd say $2K off; We live in GA and we shopped around hard for it.

I find it helpful to look at what Carmax is charging for an identical, but slightly used, car. Carmax generally offers a fair, albeit not the rock-bottom lowest, price. They have one 2016 CR-V EX with 1000 miles on it for $24,998. So, given that information, I'd say the price you've negotiated is probably fair once you include taxes, etc. It's probably not the rock-bottom lowest price you could find somewhere, though.

Location can change things some.
We got 2016 CRV EX in July for ~$23,300 out the door price. So, your price is high, or my price was low.

Does Lexus have high repair costs or reliability issues? I thought it was the top brand for avoiding repairs or high maintenance expenses for a car you want to keep for 10 to 20 years. Thanks. I've never owned one but was thinking about it for my next car.Grt2bOutdoors wrote:The EX is the Acura engine and transmission. For a few thousand more you could buy an Acura. My b-i-l has one, certain repairs are expensive due to parts and labor that can not be done in your own driveway. Reliability is good, but when you have to fix those issues that require car to go into a shop because you lack the necessary tools, time, know-how or the weather doesn't exactly cooperate in an open air driveway, it can get costly. That said, that is all my b-i-l will drive, a Lexus.rgs92 wrote:Does Lexus have high repair costs or reliability issues?
