My bonus was deposited today (17% of 2015 wages). So today it went up a bit

Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
Opinions on my worth vary. I'd like to think it increases every day, but I know some really bad days can drag it down. I never receive statements reporting my worth, nor can I fathom the great sum I owe.

Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
I never know my net worth. Portfolio size is down, but I don't add it up when the market is in a downward frenzy. Income is up in retirement. If I weren't retired I would be purchasing stock in a 401k and a taxable account regularly.
The only thing I am looking at right now is the value of my 2015 Roth conversion for consideration of a recharacterization back to a traditional IRA which will have an effect on Medicare premiums.

Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
My net worth is close to all time high due to large contributions.
My total losses are probably close to 100k YTD. Doesn't bother me in the slightest, I was able to buy at lower prices.

My 401k is down 7.5% since January.
Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
Pre retireds and those retireds only requiring SS and pension are fairly comparable but retireds who are making asset draws will be a different group for this question ; and I don't know if many people are going to add back asset draws from the beginning of the year to answer a forum question that's worded in a way that will produce an apples to oranges comparison .chabil wrote:As of today our net worth has declined 5.4% from as of 12/31/15
AA is off by 3%.
Trying to see how others are faring. Are you re balancing?
Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
Total portfolio (which is also our Net Worth since we do not count our house or cars etc) is down by 5.88% from 12/31/2015
AA equity is off by 4%.
I am considering re balancing with dividends which are usually reinvested into cash or bonds.
I am a bit surprised by people who say they do not care to look. It is easy for us because it is all right there on Vanguard where we have all our investments and also list the few that are non-Vanguard and all I need to do is look!
I think the market will re balance or I will. But I am curious so I look.

Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
I track the balances in our investment accounts monthly, but only do the Net Worth calcs in January and July.
From July 2015 to Jan 2016:
Our Net Worth increased by $20k - including investment contributions and increased equity in our house. So a decline in real terms of ~ $60k.
Our portfolio decreased by ~ $1k ($487k to $486k) even with nearly $10k in contributions.
We're OK with that. Our lump sum value and investment for my Defined Benefit pension increased by nearly $30k, and our house value increased by nearly $60k. Diversification works!

I estimate around 5% this year.
Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
I'm too lazy to figure it out.
Up, I think. We bought a house in another city 2 1/2 years ago and it's price is up 60%. So it more than makes up for stock losses.
But, like I say, I haven't noodled it out because it's irrelevant to my life and I'm slothful. So, for clarity's sake, put me in Nisi's camp. (I think his pup tent is right next to mine.)

YTD I'm down 9.37%.
80/20 stock/bond, 60/40 US/intl
I'm hoping stocks keep dropping through the end of March, when I have more cash to invest. Retirement is 25+ years away.

Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
I try not to look at it often, but since i'm pretty new in investing and started in september '15 i'm very curious about how my portfolio is doing. Last time I looked (1 week ago) at my portfolio I saw a decline of about 6-7%. It made me a little bit nervous since I don't know my tolerance for risk, but I think the most important thing I learnt from this forum is to stay the course, and that's exactly what i'm going to do

Good gosh, I can't follow the daily, weekly or even monthly gyrations. It would drive me crazy.
I do know that in 1990 I had a net worth of around $6,000. Now it's still in two comma club range. So all in all I'm happy with it.

My total net worth is down approximately 4% since December 31st. I am buying Vanguard mutual funds in the month of January however during this "white sale".

I like surveys. Pretty meaningless.
About even, since 01Jan2016. Only 18-20% of retirement assets is directly influenced by Stock-Bond market. I moved a bunch to cash in Dec and had a big stock popup on 12Feb2016. This bucket of 20% is extra to our needs. 65/68. Have LTCi.

It's down about 2.5%. I've made a few house payments already this year and have put a bit back into investments as well so there is that. I would never have checked if I hadn't stumbled across this thread.

Recently retired and down -1.8% this year. Conservative 30/70 stock/bond portfolio.
(down -3% including December 2015)
Reminds me of the Zvi Bodie video's on YouTube.
"Every morning, look at yourself in the mirror and say: Do Not Lose Money Today".
He advocated TIPS. If the low return of TIPS do not meet your retirement goals, reset your goals. Work longer, save more, spend less.
For people of modest means, savings/investments are needed for survival. Food, clothing, shelter, medical. These people really don't have the ability to take risk.
For people of high net worth, it means selling the vacation home and boat. Yes, it hurts but life is still good.

Since 1/1/2016 we are down 3.2% on a 40/60 portfolio. 2015 we ended up flat with a high water mark in May. Yes we have rebalanced and currently are at 41/59 after rebalancing.

2016 YTD is down about 6.5% (401K). 70/30 mix. This excludes future (fingers crossed) DB pension income which will be 50% of my retirement income.
Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
I just check an account that was down about 1% last Friday, but is positive YTD today! Haven't checked my other accounts, but for me, today is the day I start asking "What is your increase in Networth as of today?"Toons wrote:Not really paying attention.

Not really sure that looking at six weeks of gains/losses is a great use of time, unless you want to rebalance.

I don't know and don't care because it is a long term investment and checking may cause me to do something stupid. Did you check the value of your house today?

My net worth goes up every year because i LBYM.
Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
Down by 4.8% from 12/31/2015 and AA (60:40) off by 3%. I don't plan to re-balance.
Re: What is your decline in Net Worth as of today?
I only check monthly, so from 12/31/15 to 1/31/2016, we were down about 5%. We are 80/20.
I've been slowly altering our AA from 90/10 80/20 over the last few years, and I wasn't there yet until the markets fell. So I didn't have to rebalance to hit my target AA - the markets did it for me!

Networth less house and other personal assets. Or portfolio value if you prefer as long as you compare the same thing!Ron wrote:Net worth or portfolio value?

Compared to 12/31/2015.
Net worth decline - 3.33%
AA (60:40) is off 3.3% as well in equity.

Today from yesterday? Negative. Probably. I dunno. You wanna make me an offer on my dwelling I'm not selling so I know how much to add or subtract? I'm assuming it's around 20% of net worth, but decreasingly have satisfactory reasoning. Please offer yesterday too so I can calculate the change
You mean decline in one day or from first investment purchase of a financial asset I still have or first installment on student debt or first borrowing or what?
I'm up a lot, so decline is down, from being very well educated but very much in the hole. Whole. Hwatever.
My net is well-seasoned, so I probably couldn't get very much for it, not even from an impassioned amateur volleyball team.
