What was your % pay raise?

Post by 4strings » Wed Jan 20, 2016 1:54 pm

If any, what was your base salary % pay raise for this year?

Official inflation is running 1-2% depending on which measure you look at so I am curious to see what kind of bumps people are getting.

+3.85% for me.

5% plus a 2% year-end bonus. Was told it would have been larger, but I started in May - will be receiving (at least up for) another raise at my 1yr mark. I gave my employees anywhere from 3%-7% based on performance.

Not a ton, but after receiving a grand total of 1.5% in 4yrs (and that was because I received the highest possible score on my annual evaluation 2yrs in a row) and $50 Christmas bonus, I was very thankful.

I'm a teacher. No raise (not even COLA), but a one time incentive stipend for 2.5% of my salary will be issued in a month.

At this rate, with no raises in the first four years in this career (budgetary issues), I won't be a teacher for long!

Teacher here, too. I got a 4% raise at the beginning of the academic year and a $750 bonus. Teachers with more than 5 years of experience got nothing but a step increase, though, which only carries a raise ever 5 years

Given that I know zero about your life, take this with a grain of salt, but my teacher spouse was in the same boat. However now with kids we really value the flexibility that teaching provides and can value the daycare not needed during summer/vacations. That approximately 10 weeks for us is worth $1500 tax free and much more if we didn't have family to do daycare 2 days per week.

My wife is a teacher, and although she's in a better paying district, the raises still suck. We're in PA, where everyone hates education, and she spent the first three years of her career without even a COLA since her union accepted a wage freeze due to budget cuts.

I'll be getting 1.5% COLA, and 1% for merit.

That's assuming PA ever gets a state budget passed and my employer's funds are unfrozen.

84.9%.

I graduated. Spent 4 years on a stipend without any COL increases (0%).

Mrs. nanoanalyzer gets her COL raises on 1 July. It was 2.5% in 2015.

We don't get raises until March.

I don't think I will be getting one. It was mentioned last year that I came in from a different industry and was being paid significantly more than most of the other engineers. (Umm, that is why you hired me you know, to get some of the knowledge that we had from other industries)

So it was mentioned that I might not get a merit raise this year and instead I would get a cash "bonus". :?

That is such a great way to reward your most valuable employees.

What I should do is just quit and offer to come back as a consultant. We have a consultant that we are paying a bunch of money to, from my previous industry by the way, who is telling them to do the same thing that I have been telling them to do for 8 years.... SMH

The kicker was when our Director got up in front of the entire plant and said the EXACT same thing that I have been saying over and over and again like it was a new "revelation". :|

The guys in my department looked and me and smirked.

But we will see.

Semi retired here, but started another part-time per diem gig back at former full-time employer.
I requested what comes to a 6.2% increase in my rate over last year and they agreed to it...

My wife is in education as well, so the benefits of me being flexible with a teacher's schedule aren't as great. I'm considering leaving the profession and turning our real estate investments into a full-time endeavour.

Didn't mean to get this off track. My apologies to the original poster.

I am in a union. We were without a contract for three years. Then the contract was finally completed, and we got pay raises (retro-active) for the last three years. The raises were 1.75%, 1.5% and 1.5%.

Then I was really fortunate to get a promotion that came with a raise in pay of about 8.5%.

edit: huh, I did not realise this but technically that old contract expired a few months after it was negotiated. LOL! That means I have not had a raise since January 1, 2014. The only raise I got to my base pay was due to a promotion.

I received a 0% raise and a 15% bonus.

Pretty unhappy considering I am in sales, my numbers were double what they were last year, but they, without informing us, cut our commission rate in half.

I am looking for new employment as a result.

This year I received a 20% bump to base salary and a 30% increase to commission plan for on target earnings.

To be fair I switched territories and now cover "named" accounts.

Still very much in the early part of my career and for the first time since I graduated Undergrad I did not receive a raise for the year.

The Oil patch is rough right now. Everyone (including me) is just trying to stay employed.

8% (Same as last year, measuring from a base age of 66).

I got a 3.4% merit raise, and I had received a 5% raise in the Fall when I made a lateral move within the company (so a total raise of about ~8.6% over last January's salary). We also got a bonus worth 2 weeks salary (~3.84%).

My wife got a 6.2% raise and no bonus. She will get a certification in her field this year (hopefully) and an even more substantial raise.

I work for local government. I got a 3% step raise and a 2% COL.

Between our last two contracts we received 9% COL over the past 8 years and significant cuts to benefits. Hopefully things get better.

I won't find out until next month, but expecting 2.5-3%. Wife is getting 4.5%.

EDIT: We both ended up doing much better, actually. I ended up with 6.7% increase. Wife received a surprise promotion and had a 15% increase.

3% here, no complaints though as I also switched to a position with a lower pay grade last year (and much less stress), but was able keep my previous salary.

I was hired on just after the cut off to receive January's COLA-subject-to-merit raise, which this year was set to 2% or 3%. Oh well, I just accepted a new position at my employer for a 15% raise. I guess my 'bonus' will be a 'leaving the work group' lunch and a beer this next Friday.

100%, no kidding. I paid for it during the last 3 years though with no raises and a 25% cut in pay from my previous employer who claimed financial distress. Three months in on Friday with my new employer and trying to catch up.

Zero.

Then again, the company has only reviewed and offered raises once in the last 10 years.

Individual raised have not been announced, yet.

But average raises will be sub-2%.
Interesting, the company did "well" and bonuses will be at ~+50% over expected. Individual performance rarely move the needle more than 10%, meaning almost everyone gets between 0.9-1.1x of target. This year, the bonuses will be 1.35~1.65x of target.

Short-term company metrics equal short term rewards for employees. Individual efforts means almost nothing except for the margins, i.e. fired or promoted. Mega-corps are weird.

0%. No raise in five years. I've been with the company for 9 years and initially received very nice raises through 4 years. However, that put me near the top for my position in this area and so if I leave I would likely take a pay cut.

Did get an unexpected bonus though a week ago. Finally bought that Bose Soundlink Mini II that I'd been looking at!

I'm a teacher as well. It seems that location makes a difference. This year, I got a 5% raise + 2% step increase + 1.5% stipend for attending workshops. The stipend was a result of having to put in more hours so the actual raise was 7%. Last year was a 6% raise + 2% step increase for a total raise of 8%. Teachers in our district are expecting a similar raise later this year as the past couple of years but we shall see. This is in the Bay Area and there is a huge teacher shortage here currently.

Only rank promotions got raises last year. 90% of our department didn't get promoted and got 0% due to state budget issues.

1.5% increase with old company and upcoming job layoffs for my department. Landed a new job prior to the layoffs and got a 39% raise. Wished I had shopped around sooner than sticking with the status qou.

For this year (2016) it is TBD. For 2015 it was ~2%, my worst ever except employer-wide wage freeze years. I must be losing my edge. :)
