What is the percent that lawyers charge in Maryland

I was in a car accident, but I was not the one that hit/nor at fault. What is the average a lawyer will charge to represent in the state of Maryland?

In personal injury matters one third of a pre-trial settlement, 40% of a judgement. Costs advanced by the attorney (expert witness fees for depositions and trial testimony, for example) and medical insurance carrier liens are usually deducted from the settlement or judgement.

There are also tax implications to many medical settlements. They can be considered ordinary income.

This thread is now in the Personal Finance (Not Investing) forum (legal).

The OP had a second topic which I moved into a standalone thread. See: [Looking for advice between GEHA and Care First Blue Choice]
