IBM Trusteer Rapport?

Post by LeonGTR »

In my BofA Security Center, I noticed in a side bar they were offering this as a "Free fraud-protection software". I already just finished enabling the 2 Factor Authentication so i'm wondering if this software is actually useful and if so is it relatively hassle free to run?

Hmm. I hadn't seen this before on the BoA site.

IBM's site for that product gives a good overview--and (naturally) a link to a white paper warning of the perils of two-factor authentication: http://www-03.ibm.com/software/products ... er-rapport Its observations about pitfalls of mobile SMS as authentication are as follows:
•Vulnerable to man-in-the-middle/phishing attacks, where
fraudsters get customers to enter the OTP into a spoofed
banking site, while blocking access to the legitimate site
•Until the OTP number expires, the fraudster has free reign
of the account
•Users can be tricked into installing SMS forwarding
malware, allowing the fraudsters to intercept the OTP
I am not a security/tech guy and have not heard anything previously about this. Don't know how much of an issue it really is.

Finally, I haven't installed the software, so can't answer your questions as to ease of use.
