State Farm.

They've been great the two times I had a claim. One was over and above the call of duty. We are lifers with State Farm as a result.

State Farm for 30+ years. I have only had a couple of small claims but they were handled efficiently. I also use State Farm for homeowner's and umbrella.

Went with Hartford this time - it cycles between Geico, 21st Century, Liberty Mutual, or whomever is the least expensive at the time. It seems that loyalty or longevity does not make a difference as the rates change from year to year.

Dropped Liberty Mutual after many years when they cancelled (no claims, no hurricanes) my homeowners :annoyed

Geico.

I've never had to file a claim with them.

I'll probably do more research when I start to look for renters and umbrella policy.

Nope, they probably figured Florida was due for some damage after ten years of no hurricanes
Nothing like an insurer taking to the hills when there may - eventually - be a need for a payout on their coverage
LM then expected me to renew my auto and I gently said 'not interested'.

I've been with Safeco for the past two years and they were surprisingly easy to deal with when I was involved in a no-fault accident. My car was deemed a total loss and the amount I received from Safeco was more than I believe I could have gotten selling my car outright to a private party. They also managed to get my deductible back for me once they tracked the other driver's insurance policy down. :happy

New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance, available in NJ, PA and NY. We've been with them for 30 years.

What does it matter? The best and/or least expensive insurance for YOU depends on your unique characteristics.

For the record - I have no insurance. I also have no car and don't drive.

Farm Bureau. I've had them my entire driving career, have never had any problems and they've always been cheaper than anyone else I could find as long as I don't have any driving infractions. They give you discounts based on how many years you've been with them, if your parents were members and based upon your driving record.

I have our Auto Policy with AARP Hartford, as we just moved into this area and they were the cheapest.

Back in the Old Country (New Jersey) we had NJ Manufacturers for 34 years. They were the absolute best price for Home & Auto coverage by a long shot. Their Annual "Dividend" check was an added bonus. Lord, I miss that company.

I'm going to re-visit the Insurance situation for next year, just to be sure we've got the best deal.

I use Progressive. I've had a good experience with them so far. I had to file claims twice so far, once for hail damage and once for a fender bender that was my fault. My rate went up after the fender bender, but I don't exactly blame them for that...

I regard auto insurance as something you should shop around for every year or so.

Two and a half years ago I cancelled Liberty Mutual after shopping AARP Hartford, AAA, Progressive, State Farm and others. GEICO was the best deal @ the time and have not raised rates but have provided an additional discount since then so I have not shopped since. Haven't had an insurance claim of any kind in more than two decades so can't help on how those are handled.

One should stay married their spouse not their auto insurance company.

Ever see those ads from insurer X showing how much customers saved by switching from insurer Y? Then go to insurer Y and you see the same type of add showing how much customers saved by switching from insurer X! Those numbers are real and what it points out is there is quite a bit of "arbitrage" in the insurance business.

In my opinion everybody should, every year or other year, undertake to get a set of quotes from competing insurers. If you've been with company X for 30 years and haven't done this chances are you've left some serious coin on the table.

I have been using Esurance for the past couple of years. They have been bought by Allstate. I have never had to file a claim so I can't comment on that. I typically switch companies every couple of years depending on who is offering the best rates at the time. I have pretty much used every company out there by now.

I check prices every year at a minimum. My only loyalty is to my wallet.

Good people if you can get the insurance. See restrictions above. Note that if you leave your employer who is a member of the association, you can maintain the insurance.

I've got a copy of my Declarations Page with the Coverage Options highlighted and my price for coverage "whited-out". I've located a good Agency down here that will give me a broad survey of the big name Insurers.

The beautiful thing about NJ Manufacturers was they just trounced the Competitors in that market. It wasn't even close. Of course, it helps that we only put in 1 claim in 34 years.....but they paid without delay and even recovered our Deductible from the other Driver.

MetLife for auto.

Usually I get brushed off when I give ins. companies my VIN number, as it will show a van chassis, instead of a complete vehicle. Outfitters buy a chassis, then put a hi-top on, add a wheelchair lift with tie-downs, and then sell it. So much cheaper than a modified conversion van. I think they buy leftover chassis, as the van was built in 2008, and sold new in fall of 2009.

At any rate I just got a $100 bump up in van insurance premium, and a notice my homeowners thru Travelers is being changed to another one of their companies, no rate provided yet. No claims for little over 5 years (not at fault) for auto, one claim for homeowner's 25-30 years ago.

Time to copy the declaration pages, block out the premiums, and give to a couple of independent brokers.

I'm surprised by the lack of people responding with "PROGRESSIVE" for car insurance?!? Prior to moving to Progressive in 2010, I had USAA. When my car insurance renewal came up in Sept. 2010, USAA wanted to raise my rate by 3.5% (From $475 for two cars to $492). I called all of the big name providers, and progressive crushed the quote = $275 with all the same coverage. I am 5 years in with Progressive and I pay $288 every 6 months for my two cars...

I still shop around, but I typically tell the sales agent what I am paying and they say "I mean, we can run your numbers and see what comes up -- but that is a really low rate..." USAA has consistently been one of the higher quotes each year :(

I use USAA for home insurance though -- very happy with their customer service and their home insurance rates were similar to everyone else.
