Moving SEP IRA from American to Vanguard

Post by communipaw » Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:57 pm

I have one SEP with Vanguard and another one in an American Funds mutual fund; to simplify things, I intend to move the one in American Funds to Vanguard after my 2014 RMDs are taken care of. I'm looking for the simplest non tax event way to do it.

It looks like the simple way is not to roll the SEP over but to "transfer" it from American to Vanguard.
To avoid tax and other complications as much as possible, is it better to put it into a different Vanguard mutual fund than the one in which my Vanguard SEP Ira now is? Thank you

Are you going to sell the existing fund first because if not you'd need to open a Vanguard Brokerage Service account to accept the old fund then sell.

I plan on opening a new Vanguard SEP account for the American Fund SEP or else merging it into my current Vanguard SEP fund account.
