1. Equity = 9% of net worth.
2. No. 12 years remaining @ 3.625%.
3. If we paid our mortgage off with savings today, our home would be 27% of our net worth.

Yes house is paid off.

At the time we paid off the mortgage (2010) it was probably around 25%.

The interesting thing to note here is how the values changed from 2010 to 2015; almost 50%.
Some places this is certainly true (CA). Other places just leveled off after 2010 and never did much after that.

I think it's probably true for metro areas of both coasts and major employment centers. Or at least this rise seems to be following the typical business cycle IMO.

Somewhat less than 10%. We have a mortgage by choice during retirement, could pay it off if needed and have assets that more than meet our needs. In our case, having a mortgage higher than is necessary over the years and today has been a significant part of developing our current assets. We have done this with the belief we could obtain investment returns greater than mortgage interest plus taxes on investment returns with the additional money obtained from the mortgage. Definitely, this is not recommended by financial planners.

5%. Yes. We've lived in the same moderate size house a long time. Bigger would be an even bigger upkeep waste of our time & money than this one is. We have better places to put our assets.

Paid off mortgage ~5 years ago

This allows me to sleep big time....house has gone up 5 fold in the 30 years I've owned it. :sharebeer

PS, I know some will bawk that equity is too high but I can't help it that I made a smart decision to buy years ago

HCOL area. Combination of valuation increasing ~65% and (foolishly)throwing extra $ at the mortgage for years instead of investing. Trying to work it down...

1) 24%
2) Not close to paying it off

Barring a windfall, I don't foresee paying off a mortgage for another 20 years or so, unless I move to renting.
