I kmnow there are a ton of reader on this board, I'm assuming there are a bunch who love music as well. Looking forward to a new Kenny Chesney album, other than that, not a whole lot is speaking to me.

The Black Keys' El Camino is one of the best albums I have heard in years. It's kind of a cross between the Rolling Stones, Rare Earth and Isaac Hayes.

I second the black keys. Recently heard some stuff off their "brothers" album and I going to have to get that now.

Petro and I listen to the stuff while we bathe in gold coins. Separately, of course.

The Black Keys rock....basically just two Chicago caucasoids playing the blues with an edgy rock sound. But tonight, I'm setting the wayback machine on Steely Dan. Going to the patio, turning on the outside sound system and going to become one with Becker and Fagan. Good topic!

I leave my internet connection on Radio Swiss Classic all the time. They tend not to play entire long, heavy symphonies and operas, but, for example, do play entire Beethoven piano concertos and chamber works. So, not exactly easy listening, but just right for me. And no commercials.

Now Playing: Neil Young with Crazy Horse, the album 'Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere', 1969.

My favorite Neil Young, this early work is some of the best guitar of his career. 'Cinnamon Girl', 'Cowgirl in the Sand', and 'Down by the River' remain FM classic rock radio and tour staples.

I'm a HUGE Van Morrison fan and am slowly collecting his entire discography. The Best of Van Morrison Volume 3 is pretty sweet overall. But my favorite favorite favorite Van Morrison, heck my favorite CD in the world is Van Morrison's "A Night in San Francisco" - which is a live album and features other great singers like John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells, Jimmy Witherspoon, Georgie Fame, Brian Kennedy etc. And Candy Dulfer's Sax solos in there are amazing.

It even tops his "It's too late to stop now" which considered one of the best lives albums to ever been record.

"A Night in San Fransisco" is the best live album I have ever heard. Period!

But if you're not Van Morrison fan or haven't really listened to him, the greatest hits and the "best of" volumes are great places to start. It features some of the best duets I've heard with artist like Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Bob Dylan, Tom Jones, Bobby Bland, Georgie Fame, B.B. King and others.

----

Other than that, I like rock music. And I have almost all of Chris Cornell's work. Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of Dog, and his solo stuff.

The first Audioslave CD titled "Audioslave" is awesome. Not one bad song in there, no space fillers, it's pure great solid rock, leaning on the grunge side.

Try The Dillards for super solid bluegrass.

That's a great tune. I don't know much about Jenny Lewis, but heard that tune on a nearby radio station last summer and had to look it up. They made one fantastic music video with this tune.

Unfortunately, the video is tough to find now ("This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds. Blah, blah, blah."), and the quality of what you can find isn't as good as the previously available YouTube videos.

Here's a link that still works (though Sarah Silverman's opening word has been sanitized!):

Jenny Lewis - Rise Up With Fists (with the Watson Twins) (and Sarah Silverman)

It's great stuff.

I liked the thread more when it was what are you listening to, but that thread does not fit within the consumer guidelines (a thread with recommendation for action does). I could have told you what I was listening to, but I wouldn't recommend it to the general population, so I won't (or is it I can't?).

Crooked Still, on a little EP I happened upon, Friends of Fall. You can find a sample track here:

Crooked Still Friends of Fall out today!

Aoife O'Donovan has a sweet voice.

I'd recommend this to anyone with an appreciation for alternative bluegrass.

For those Bogleheads who are enamored with The Black Keys, I STRONGLY suggest you pick up the new Dr. John CD. It is very reminiscent of his early 70s sides on Atco AND it is produced by Black Keys guitarist and uber-fan Dan Auerbach. http://www.amazon.com/Locked-Down-Dr-Jo ... ocked+down :sharebeer

Why? You have to figure that if you're listening to it, someone else might be intrigued.

Last friday night I caught the tail-end of a TV news report about one of the most distinctive singers I remember from my youth. The reason for the news item turned out to be that a documentary about (the search for) him won a prize at the Sundance film festival.

He went by the name "Rodriguez" and the album I remember is "Cold Fact". Despite being an American of Mexican descent he is apparently completely unknown in the US. After his albums were released in the early seventies he apparently gave up on his musical career and worked as a labourer in Detroit. Only in the last decade or so was he rediscovered, and has since done some tours, mostly outside the US.

Over the weekend I have read comparisons that put him in the league of Dylan and Neal Young. (I liked his music very much but don't regard myself as anywhere close to having the expertise to have an opinion on this.)

A link to what seems to be the main fan web site is below. (Seems a little slow today, maybe the world is taken a sudden interest in him now.)
