My Motorola Surfboard Modem 1.0 seems to limit my Charter internet download speed to about 10 MB. 15+ MB is available in my area of town.
A Charter Communications technician recommended I get a newer modem to access the greater speed, but I see both DOCSIS 2.0 and 3.0 modems available.
Should I go with the 2.0 (cheaper) modem, or the 3.0 ? Will the 2.0 soon become obsolete?
New Modem Purchase: DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0?
Re: New Modem Purchase: DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0?
I would go with the DOCSIS 3.0 since that is the most recent standard and should have the longest useful life.
DOCSIS 3.0 supports IPv6 and channel bonding. These are things you may want to or need to use in the future.

I decided to go with a 3.0 modem even if you don't need it (yet). Should give you a longer usage time. I bought a Motorola SB6121 via Amazon and use it with Comcast.

Do the 3.0. I did 2.0 no less than a year ago and am already regretting it. After having internet service for six months, the rates went up. At that point, I could get a higher speed for a cheaper price, but it required 3.0.
