I just got my papers!! Yaaay!

My family and I moved here to the good ol' USA a year and a half ago.

After a long time of applying to be immigrants, our papers have finally been approved!

We are expecting to be permanent residents in a month or two. I can finally go back home, go to school(nursing), and come back here to work!

I just wanted to share my joy.

Happy day for me and my family :)

Many years ago I helped a young Cuban immigrant who was living in his car. I was at his side when he became a citizen. My friend, Manny Jemeniz, later became president of the local American Bankers Association.

Another Cuban friend, Carlos Gimeniz, was a student in my public speaking (evening) class. He recently retired (with reputation intact) as Miami City Manager.

There are, to my lights, two things that made and make this nation great, among all other nations:

Firstly, those few defining principles that our founding fathers managed to give voice to via the Declaration of Independence and our Constitution, and secondly, the people who have come to this land seeking out a way to make those ideals manifest.

Congratulations!

You may have already looked into this, but you have to be very careful about maintaining your permanent resident status if you plan to be outside the US for a while.

wow, one and half years, you are so lucky!

I came to US 6 years ago. I went to graduate school in US, got the degree, and work for a medical device startup as an engineer. I pay a lot of taxes and I think contribute to the society in a positive way.

My company sponsored my green card application but I have to wait a looooooooooong time, maybe another 5, 6 years. This is discouraging and sometimes I feel it is unfair.

Anyways, I may not stay to wait for the green card. Thinking of going back home and start a company.

You are lucky. I am too a legal immigrant still on temporary visa for 8 years (renew every couple of years). Got Master's degree, then a full-time job & pay all taxes (ss, medicare, fed, state)

2-3 more years to go before permanent residency. Obviously, this long wait is for China-India immigrants only

I agree, we were very lucky, but don't get discouraged!

We thought it was impossible too. I was even contemplating on marrying a citizen just for the papers(expensive and illegal) if things didn't pan out.

At least you guys can stay here.

The worst thing that could happen is getting denied and sent back home :(
