Your favorite slippers

Post by ryuns »

The Bogleheads seems like a group that appreciates a little leisure time. not to mention that there are probably a number of retirees here who wear slippers all day long and have no need for real shoes. (Except possibly those great velcro shoes that I see the guys wearing at the diner sometimes, but I digress.)

So I ask you: I need some awesome slippers. I work at home and I'm too cheap to turn on the heat. Therefore, it's a business expense. What's your favorite pair of slippers and where can I get me some? I'd prefer something that will stay on, cover my heel, and possibly even that can handle a bit of outside walking, to get the mail or something.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Have never owned slippers. Shoes seem to work fine both indoors and out.

The tempurpedic slippers are the best I've rver tried. Howeve the padding wears out quickly after a few months and they need replaced. At like $50 that can get expensive. There is also no backing on the rear ankle like a shoe, but their comfort is superior. It also has a rubber type sole so you can go outside with them no problem.

Similar, but instead of "slippers" if you search for "driving moccasins" you'll find what I like.

I have two pair kinda like these that are great. The uppers are made of sheep skin so the inside is soft and the outsides are leather so they are durable. They are rubber soled so can go outside a little.

About 5 years ago I discovered Crocs and have been wearing them ever since around the house. A year or so ago I ordered the Crocs Rx Relief model which is an orthopedic shoe. I don't have a foot problem but found they give better support and last longer. I order them online.

I KNOW! They wear out way too fast. But oh at first so comfortable.

I pretty much live in these LL Bean slippers while indoors.

Crocs, no socks in the summer and with socks in the winter. Their first plant and warehouse is about 10 minutes from me and once a year they have a warehouse sale of blems and discontinues and you can pick them up for $3-$10 a pair. They put them on the warehouse floor with a price sign for each pile, you dig in the pile for style and size as there is no order.

I have 3 pairs that are University of Alabama Crimson Tide and they missed the color by a mile. They are something between coral ,raspberry , and bublegum. It takes confidence to wear them as peoples eyes are instantly drawn down to them with that, 'What the hell are those." look.

I've been frustrated being unable to find a simple soft-soled moccasin, as every pair of slippers I remember fondly has always been. Everything in the stores seems to have a heavy sole, which is the part I'm trying to avoid when I reach for slippers. I found a pair of Danskins at Walmart, of all places for $10 that are lighter than most, but not exactly what I wanted. Any other soft-sole lovers out there with any suggestions?

Stegmann Wool Felt clogs - exceptionally comfortable, good support, easy on/off, warm in winter, not too hot in summer.

retcaveman,

I've been looking for a new pair of premium slippers since the tempurpedic ones wear out too quickly and I've gone thru about 5 pairs of them already. Which of these is better? (price doesnt matter)

I use the first ones more. They have a rubber sole so I can go out to our (attached) garage in the winter and not worry about getting them wet. I wouldn't wear them outside the house. With the rubber sole, they also keep their shape better. The fleece lining is also less dense (cooler).

The second pair are very plush and very warm. Sometimes too warm. You can also get them without the fleece lining, although I have never owned that style. And you can get smooth leather tops or the softer nubuck leather, which is what I have.

Here is a link to all the men's Bean slippers.

http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/506762?nav=pp-bc

LL Bean is a great place with which to do business. You can return stuff anytime, no questions asked. I recently responded to a post by describing an experience with them wherein I contacted them to see if they would just resole my worn out slippers at my expense. There was no defect, they just wore out. The customer service person encouraged me to send them back so they could replace them, no charge. Unbelievable.

Enjoy.

OK, I'll bite. I have these terrific mocs made of buffalo leather; they're so worn, but I believe I can just make out the name Trask on them. Maybe I got them at LL Bean. Unlined. Don't think LLB sells them anymore. A shame. The second pair, which my better half gave me recently as a present, comes also from Bean and is lined with shearling. Very warm, no need to wear socks with them, would be too tight if you did.

And you're right, we retirees spend all day in them, except of course when we show up at the diner styling in our green velcro shoes.

Now, since we're definitely not making any sweeping statements, what are you doing working? I thought all 26 year olds in Davis spent all day/night riding their bikes.

I find a "boat shoe" to be an ideal solution. They are comfortable, warm, and seem to last forever. The sides and tops are real leather. They can be used for light duty outside use like checking the mail. I wear them with socks. I usually slip into them at the door where I transition from outside footwear to comfortable indoor slippers.

these may not speak "classy" but they're comfy and do the job for cold winter floors. i'm not sure where the spouse got them, but they've lasted me a few winters...

Since this thread got resurrected, I thought I'd post an epilogue. I bought some Tamarac slippers from Amazon. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Tamarac-Slippers- ... B003CIPOG2
Except about half the price, because Amazon only had one size. 'Twas an excellent purchase. I wear them about 8 hours a day (work from home) and they've handled a lot of abuse, as slippers go.

Glerups. Incredibly comfortable. Warm in the winter and surprisingly cool even into the summer. You can get them with a rubber outsole, but I get them only with the leather outsole, which is soft and comfortable. I haven't tried the rubber outsoles, but I don't think they'd be as comfortable in the house, and I also don't wear outdoor shoes inside the house. It's easy to switch into outdoor sandals to go get the mail. The "open heel" version is easy to slip into and stays on my feet just fine. Best slippers I've had, and mine last up to four years with daily, constant wear.

When I lived in Germany, Schawos was my favorite brand of hausschue
Any time I had to make a business trip to Europe I'd try and find a new pair.
I was even able to purchase a pair from Amazon here in the US one year.
At the moment, the only option appears to be importing myself or through a few sellers on Ebay.

I wear slippers 50% of the time inside the house and 50% of the time go barefoot. My wife's bare feet never touches the floor and always has slippers on inside the house. Never worn outside the house. Only inside.

I love my Merrell cozy glove with vibram soles. However, Merrell doesn't sell them anymore so I am debating about getting slippers from Vibram--Furoshiki. I also have Glerups with rubber soles that I really like.

Bought these 4 years ago for $52.50.

Sorel Men's Falcon Ridge Slipper

Have even worn them way too much outside and they are still in good condition with not much wear. I'd frequently thought that once they went I'd just turn around and buy another pair.

Bought them prior to being an active person in this forum and found them via searching with Amazon. I made a good purchase.

I have Acorn scuffs. Molded sole with good arch support which is much better for my feet. Very warm. I can wear a pair of thinner wool socks if necessary. Will definitely buy again.
