Fantasy RV Tours?

Post by bhwabeck3533 »

We don't use our Class C RV that frequently, one of the reasons being the unique planning process necessary to make reservations on a multi-stop adventure. So, when I saw FMCA's connection to "Fantasy RV Tours", I was intrigued by their offerings (https://www.fantasyrvtours.com/RV-Tours/FMCA-Club-Tours). The opportunity to get an all-in-one multi-stop RV trip through a single source. Anyone on this site have experience (even second-hand) with this travel company?

Disclaimer: I have made this inquiry on my "go to" RV website (iRV2.com), you just need to appreciate that universe to understand why I'm asking here.

I found a couple of somewhat recent discussions on iRV2 for you:

https://www.irv2.com/forums/f295/tours- ... 53204.html
https://www.irv2.com/forums/f59/rv-cara ... 37884.html

I also checked 2 other RV forums I frequent daily, but could only find 2 mentions of Fantasy's tours, both for the ABQ Balloon Fest, one in 2023 and one more than 10 years old. Both were positive, but that "tour" is likely not a typical one since it's tied to a specific event that can be challenging to get a site at (RV parks within 2 hours of ABQ usually book solid a year out for the Balloon Festival.)

I can offer one perspective on the organized RV tour type of trip, since we have done a couple with a prior RV club. First, caravanning isn't always fun. Not everyone finds the same pace comfortable, which can make the driving part more stressful. Second, these tours are often on a pretty fast-paced schedule for the different activities. If the tour uses buses to get attendees to different activities (rather than everyone taking their own vehicles), you're going to be on their schedule to get back to your rig (which often doesn't work well if you travel with pets.)

If you haven't done group RV travel before, you might look into whether your RV brand has an owner's club with regional chapters, and maybe try a couple of their rallies to get a feel for whether you like being on a designated schedule before committing to something like an Alaska or Maritimes trip.

ETA - I just looked at the link you posted for the FMCA-sponsored tours. on the price! Their "Autumn Harvest" tour of Maine/NH/Vermont for 12 days is more than 50% of what we would spend covering exactly those activities and many more (including fuel, meals, and camping fees) over the course of 4-6 months. That said, if we wanted to do something like Alaska it would be worth it for the support over the 2 month once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Add these comments to "our" feedback:

Overall, pretty positive response to my request for experiences. And I appreciate your suggestion to join a Tiffin Rally (we have a Wayfarer) as an appetizer to group RVing.

As a Tiffin owner, are you aware of Tiffin RV Network? It's one of the original independent "RV brand" owners' forums. I'm not a member because we don't own a Tiffin (I believe that's still a requirement for forum membership), but I've heard good things over the years about that forum.
