Black Friday Deals (2024) - Any Bogleheadish Deals You're Keeping an Eye On?
Anything catching your eye or that you're hoping to go on sale?
I've been wanting to buy monitor since I may get a new MacMini soon, and am waiting to see if there are any good Black Friday deals. Apple's Studio Display is hardly 13% off, unfortunately.
I may treat myself to and these pricy but well reviewed Bose noise canceling headphones, currently 43% off over on Amazon's Early Black Friday Deals page, since my decade-old pair are falling apart.
What are you looking to get this Black Friday?

I ordered a WiiM Pro audio streamer from Crutchfield at 20% off. If it works out, I plan to buy two more and some speakers.

A coincidence you mentioned the Bose, since I was also consider those. However, leaning toward a cheaper but similar Black Friday item.Cranberry44 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 1:41 pm Anything catching your eye or that you're hoping to go on sale?

Nothing, unless I get a great offer from any of the coffee roasters I enjoy.

Pretty sure the deal the most Bogleheads are waiting for with bated breath is the Amazon sale on TurboTax 2024 with $10 gift card.

I'd like to buy another 4tb external usb drive, but so far they cost roughly twice as much as last year. I would have bought two more last year if I'd thought the price wouldn't either stay the same or come down.

Couple of things I picked up.

* Dune part 1 & 2 for $30
* John Wick Part 4 for $15
* Elden Ring for $20
and then some work clothes as well.

Ordered a supply of Levi's jeans--the only long pants I wear
40% off (everything, I think)
20% off + free shipping for first order for joining Levi's free Red Tag program
Surprisingly, the discounts stacked so I ordered more jeans than I had planned. I probably have a lifetime supply now.
EDIT: Poster cvn74n2 reported below that their discounts did not stack, so YMMV. It is very likely that I benefitted from an early glitch.

After being away from the camera scene for more than a decade, I’d like to pick up a unit to take pictures of kids’ sports from the sidelines. I shunned big camera gear after cellphones got good, but fellow parents have sent me pictures from their gear and it’s given me the itch.
Indoor gym lighting is remarkably weak so I am targeting a full frame mirrorless and a fast zoom lens. The Sony stuff seems impressive, especially their focus tracking.
If a deal pops up on a Sony A7cii I might jump on it. Perhaps a 70mm prime to keep things smaller.

A new collar for my dog. Waiting for the price on Temu to drop from $6.50 to $3.50.
Honestly I can't think of much I really want or need, just the occasional tool or something when the price drops ridiculously low.

I was able to buy Levi’s cheaper than that when they were on sale at Costco this summer: $29.95 for 505 jeans. I bought two pair (but should’ve bought more). They’re comfortable but don’t last as long as other jeans I’ve owned, like Wrangler jeans.Doom&Gloom wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 5:34 pm Ordered a supply of Levi's jeans--the only long pants I wear

Costco's version is identical but it comes with a soft case instead of a hard case (thus the "QuietComfort SC" name).HereToLearn wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 9:53 pmCostco has what looks like the same headphones for $170, but I cannot confirm model # as I did not see one in the Amazon listing.Cranberry44 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 23, 2024 1:41 pm Anything catching your eye or that you're hoping to go on sale?

Bose product names have gotten super confusing, as they have gotten rid of model names and are recycling product names (e.g., they came out with QuietComfort Earbuds, followed by QuietComfort Earbuds II, and now a new version called ... QuietComfort Earbuds).

Needs vs wants. I am considering buying an M2 MacBook Air that’s on a steep sale, to replace our very Bogleheadish original MB Air from like 2010 or whenever it first came out. Still, the BG in me will probably not do it, since the person in the family who might use it hardly ever truly needs a computer (vs an 8 year old iPad). I hate tapping into savings.
Re: Black Friday Deals (2024) - Any Bogleheadish Deals You're Keeping an Eye On?
My ex-spouse is moving out so I have purchased some house stuff this week. I saved $1,220 on a couch yesterday and $250 on a Dyson V11. I have a few more house items that I need to replace. The total savings will be signficant (about $1,750-2,000) once I finish buying the bookshelves and artwork. I've been eyeing these items for several months so the discount is warmly welcomed.

I do not know about Sony but for Canon the crop sensor cameras are a lot better now at higher ISOs than they were ten years ago so you might not automatically rule those out. I have a Canon R10 which is a crop sensor and even at ISO 800 there is not any noticeable(to me anyway) noise and even much higher ISOs are very acceptable(to me) if you are not making poster size prints. A lot of that is likely due to in-camera noise reduction software which is a lot better now. For me with a crop sensor having the 1.6x crop factor where a 70mm lens is like a 112 lens on a full frame is a huge advantage.

Bose QuietComfort Headphones are the successors to QuietComfort 45 Headphones. They deliver high-fidelity audio performance and world-class noise cancellation that allow you to hear more of your films and music – while travelling, at the office or at home. QuietComfort Ultra Headphones offer our most premium design and our most advanced technologies, for the best Bose listening experience in a headphone. With QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, you will enjoy our best headphone noise cancellation, audio quality personalised with CustomTune, and voice pickup, among other premium features. QuietComfort SC Headphones are the same as QuietComfort Headphones but feature a soft carry case instead of a hard carry case, and are only available in Black.

And I got the style I wanted (not 505), the color (only 2 of 7 were some shade of blue), and didn't have to dig through a table of jeans to find what I wanted. But if I didn't already have a closet full of Levi's and stumbled across the ones I like in almost any color at $29.95, I would certainly grab some!

I've become somewhat reluctant to buy Levi's online. Manufacturing variances often seem to make one pair fit differently than another, and so I typically want to try on and buy them in a store, like Kohl's. But I bought a pair of 514s recently on Amazon during the October "Prime" sale and they fit perfectly, just like the ones already have.Doom&Gloom wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:23 amThat is a nice deal, but not cheaper. Replacement of washer and dryer. Comparison pricing of large appliance models can be tedious since model numbers sometimes vary and may not be equivalent. Lots of pricing variations due to costs (sometimes free) of warranty length, delivery, installation, and haul away of old appliance. I heavily use Consumer Reports as a selection tool. Costco usually wins out but as a cautious shopper I have to compare.
The closest helping hand is at the end of your own arm.

I do still have my old Canon XS (Rebel 1000) which I purchased 15 years ago, along with a 17-50mm f2.8. But I tried taking some pictures with it, and they looked quite bad compared to my iPhone 13, or Fujifilm X70. I plan to sell all this old gear (the Fujifilm has become a collector's item and is worth way more than I paid for it) to offset some of the cost of modernizing.
