They usually have the best sale during Black Friday/Cyber Monday timeframe and between Christmas and New Years.

Yeah, there's one day, usually the last week in December, where they add a Amazon gift card for only that day, at least that's what I remember. But I usually download earlier just to get a read on my taxes (note that not all forms/states are functional in the program with an early install) and any actions I may want to take.

Which TT is best (download vs. online)? I've been using the online mac version for the last 10 years, but considering the Amazon downloadable deluxe version.

Downloadable. I see no benefit to online.

I think it was only $1 difference from the cyber monday and the post xmas deal last year.

Now that I have a Fidelity HSA, maybe I am in the running for free TurboTax, though I suspect not.

A reminder that if you take the Amazon delivery day option throughout the year you slowly accumulate electronic purchase credits that can be used to buy Turbo Tax digital download. I've gotten it free the last couple years based on these $1-3 credits accumulated throughout the year. All while being a bit more environmentally friendly by bundling deliveries.

No one knows what is needed to qualify for free TT from Fidelity. There is a mega thread on that topic.

Yes, I'm aware of the unknown requirements, which is why I even consider it as an outside possibility.

You do realize this is not much of a deal. For example FreeTaxUSA is free federal and $15 state returns and may contain more forms then this version of TT. I realize there is a place for the more expensive packages, but they are not really justified for most returns. For me, I generally use FTU. The exception was last year where I had some estate payouts which had certain uncommon things FTU would not do related to this particular estate. For that I used OLT which is very capable but not for everyone.

I bought INTU in early 2023 as a hedge against all the price increases... I'm fine either way if I have to pay full price. Buy what you know and use!!

Are you sure about that. I keep seeing that if you have investment transactions like sales and presumably if you have similar things with bonds you need Premier. Is this not true? Or does this differ depending if you use the downloadable version vs. the online version?

I ask because pretty much anyone with investments is going to have sales or things like bonds bonds purchased at market that redeem even if they do not sell. One of the things I hate about TT is all this marketing BS... from buy this way or that and get a discount, buy this version or that... just nuts.

Thanks.

Deluxe works for 99.9% of people, Intuit's marketing tries to convince you otherwise.

Investments are handled fine, as is tax history. People repeat things they have heard, without actual knowledge.

Lowest price is between Christmas and New Year's, and it is more than $1 cheaper, one day only, with gift card.

Okay, looks like the price matches last year ($55.99) since it is now available for download. If it follows the same pattern, it will be like that until Black Friday then go down to $45.99 for five days.

OK. So TT24 is "on sale" ($55.99) at Amazon today and also says it's "available November 6 / now". I bought it, both because i don't need the absolute cheapest price and because i like to get an early start on year-end tax planning. And I also had some digital credits (thanks to whomever it was upthread who mentioned that).

However, upon purchase, there is no download link. Also confirmation email says i'll be notified when my purchase becomes available. But I thought that was "now".

Can anyone enlighten me? Does "available" mean something special here? Or it will be available later today? Or it is just bait and switch?

Thanks so much.

Last year the price for Deluxe was 69.99 retail but were able to get for about 44.99 on Dec 27, 2023 according to Camel Camel Camel.

https://camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0C ... B0CLBV27N2

So, if this is the case and the with the $10 increase (79.99) then Amazon's price of 55.99 might be the lowest possible price.

The 2023 price was $37.79 on 12/27 for Turbo Tax Deluxe. I just checked my receipt from Amazon.

$45.99 will be the lowest price, just after Christmas, for one day, including a $10 gift card.

Actually, the price was $34.99, plus sales tax, which differs across the country. This was $44.99 for the software, and a $10 gift card, netting $34.99, plus tax.

I had signed up for their advantage subscription offer. They give a couple 'free' added benefits and special early pricing $10 off deluxe. Auto renews each year. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-ta ... advantage/

I just cancelled because amazon is a better price. Do not see the value in the extras. If you're stuck into their ecosystem like me, maybe a good option if you do not want to bother purchasing every year.

I too ordered it now.
I got my Activation email but there is download for it yet.

I was also able to get 3% back using my one of my credit cards.

Edit:
Amazon Chat says to check back in an hour or 2 to if the download is available.

No download link on amazon but can enter the key from Amazon on your Intuit online account https://accounts-tax.intuit.com/ and download 2024 version from there.
Products and Billing under last year's TurboTax there is a Licenses and Downloads takes to a new page with enter your license code here link you can add your key.

Oh and look at the email form amazon with a download link. Maybe doing things different this year...
After it gets updated for 2024 www.InstallTurboTax.com appears anyone can download, need intuit account and key to install.

JFYI, I purchased this on Amazon, got the product key and went to the Intuit download site as directed. The only problem is it is still TTAX 2023 not 2024. Called Intuit and was told 2024 was not yet released but should be out tomorrow sometime. That is probably why the download link is not activated on the Amazon Software Library page.

Thank You. A little convoluted, but I found it and it was the 2024 version :sharebeer
Too convoluted for me. Still not seeing it. Did you buy TT 24 at the Intuit site (not Amazon?)
This worked: https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/un ... t=download

Earliest ever in the tax season that I have gotten annoyed with Intuit. Not a great start.

In addition, you must enter your Amazon paid TT Key at this URL https://shopping.turbotax.intuit.com/un ... t=download THEN choose the 2024 version to download.

One of the things I hate about TT is all this marketing BS... from buy this way or that and get a discount, buy this version or that... just nuts.
The desktop version of TurboTax includes every form in every edition, even Basic. Deluxe has a longer interview than Basic, and Deluxe includes one free state program. Premier has a longer interview than Deluxe, but most people don't need those interview questions. That's why "Deluxe is what most people need."

TurboTax Online is no longer marketed by edition. It is now sold as a variable-priced product that costs $0 to $129. You start for free, and when you've entered your data into the program, Intuit will tell you how much it costs. What are you going to do, switch to another program and enter all your data again?

There are still editions behind the scenes, but they are different from the desktop editions. For Bogleheads, the biggest difference is that Deluxe Online does not include Schedule D.

TurboTax versions.

TurboTax Home & Business gets advertised as all you need for Home and LLC's.
However this is a lie.

It does not file Form CA 568. CA.
And it can't be filed unless you buy TurboTax Business.

What a scam.

Turbo tax info on the web site is very misleading. Too much marketing fluff. It is not really clear what exact forms are included in each version.

The Premier version is definitely better for employee stock options over the deluxe version. The details for all the stock option data is handled better in the Premier version, which understands ISO, NSO, RSU, ESPP, details

Other than that, the Deluxe version seems good enough for most applications.

I believe you can export your data and import to the other version if you change your mind about which version to use.

Here are the forms included in each edition of TurboTax Online: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-ta ... #tax-forms

Intuit does not make this table easy to find because it's now selling TurboTax Online as a variable-priced product that costs $0 to $129. They want to tell you the price after you've already entered your data and gotten locked in.

There is no table of forms for the desktop version of TurboTax because every form is included in every edition, even Basic. Only the interview is different.

You can move from TurboTax Online to TurboTax desktop by exporting the .tax2024 file.

You can't move to a lower edition of TurboTax Online because you need the features in the higher edition.

You can't move to different software from other vendors because they can't import TurboTax files. (Intuit professional tax programs can import TurboTax files.)
