Sydney CBD Hotel recommendations

Post by Barkingsparrow »

Hi -

We plan to be be in Sydney for 4 or 5 nights next year around early August. Would appreciate anyone that has hit Sydney the past year or a little longer, as to your hotel experiences. Still formulating a budget but with the USD$ still strong against the AUD$, I think we can afford to splurge a little more.

Recommend the HYATT Harbour. Many rooms have views of the harbor and the rocks. take a walk to the ferry. I recommend just hopping on the ferry taking it to the end and returning Great views of the harbor. Don’t forget to go to Bondi Beach and to swim in the salt water pools.Enjoy Down Under … Mate

We usually stay at Marriott Hotel at Circular Quay but have also have stayed at the Sofitel and the Fullerton. We prefer the Marriott primarily for access to the ferries and metro. But, as the CBD, Rocks and Opera House are highly walkable areas, any of these would be a good choice.

I’ve also stayed here quite a few times. It seems as good a place as any. Lots with walking distance

You’ll be going in winter, so it doesn’t matter. But I’ll just mention that like virtually all of Europe its AC is underpowered, so can be a bit uncomfortable in their summer

There are many: Marriott Circular Quay, Four Seasons, Park Hyatt, Intercontinental, Langham, Sofitel Wentworth, etc. The Park Hyatt is often recommended but I think their rates have escalated along with that popularity so consider the others as well which in some ways are better located other than the view.

One of our favorite things to do is take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly or Watson's Bay. Low cost, fresh air, Aussie vibes, nice walks.

Highly recommend the United Pilots layover hotel the Radisson Blu Hotel Sydney. Great location with lots to see and do nearby.
Don’t forget to check out the Sydney Fish Market for lunch and hop the Ferry to Manley Beach for dinner. Always one of our favorite layovers. Bondi Beach has a great National Service Club that should allow you to obtain a 1 day membership as a foreigner. Wonderful place to hangout for the day while at Bondi Beach, especially on sunny weekends. Cheers!

Not a hotel, but check out places in Kirribilli, just a short ferry ride from Circular Quay. The prime minister's and Governor General's houses are there and has beautiful views and streets

stayed at the Mantra on Bond Street a little over a year ago. It’s a mix of suite/studio/apartment style rooms. Having separate spaces made the jet lag a lot easier to deal with.

I stayed at the Shearton Grand Sydney Hyde Park about 18 months ago. Great upper mid-level hotel. Across the street from the subway (straight shot from the airport). If you are a Marriott elite the executive lounge there was one of the better ones I have experienced. Breakfast (also free for elites) was very solid as well. The Park Hyatt as mentioned by others is probably the most iconic hotel in Sydney but honestly I felt was too expensive for what you got on both cash and Hyatt points. From what I read the cheapest rooms (which might only be for points bookings) are at street level with folks walking by. Going back to Sydney next March and will be staying at the Hilton (I had a couple of free night certs to burn else I probably would have returned to the Sheraton).

Thanks for the replies. Making notes of all suggestions. The plan is Sydney, fly to Uluru, then back to Sydney, this time staying in Bondi for a change.

Stayed in intercontinental near the circular quay, convenient for the ferry, bus and train and many walkable areas

Any hotel in the area will do, many where already recommended above

If staying in Bondi, Hotel Ravesis is good and right across from the beach.
