Jenny Craig / Nutrisystems / et al
Jenny Craig / Nutrisystems / et al
Has anyone personally had any of these home delivery meal services that are aimed at weight loss? I understand some are palatable, and others are just plain awful. Any comments to share, please? Thanks in advance.

I regularly use Huel products but not for weight loss. The unflavored/unsweetened classic powder makes a good daily lunch that is easy to carry to work and would make calorie tracking very easy if that were my goal. I just put in an order for the "instant meal" (previously "hot & savory") product that is basically a freeze-dried product in a bag that needs to be mixed with boiling water or microwaved for a quick, nutritious meal. Certainly not the cheapest, but perhaps the nutritional aspect might make it suitable in a weight loss context.

They just limit your calorie intake for you, if you stick to not eating anything else besides vegetables and fruits.
Portion control for high-calorie foods and a calorie counting app lets you do it yourself (and is probably better for changing food shopping and eating habits long-term).

A few years ago, I used the Weight Watchers app with great success.
Wanted to lose 20 pounds.
What the app helped me do was to see the "points" in what I was eating ... and then I could make less-points choices.
It was super-easy to make those substitutions, very informative on how food choices compared and no meetings or anything, which I did not want to do.
Plus I did it at the end of a rainy/snowy winter when I was not doing a lot of my usual exercise (walking) either.
Very satisfied with WW - that was an app that was worth the $$$.
(They also had a lot of good recipes on the app. So, OP, you might be able to use something like that to make your own food plan that really suits you!)

I know it doesn't answer your specific question, but I've tried just about everything to lose weight. At the end of the day, there is no magic formula or hack that will lose weight for you. To lose weight, you need to improve your diet and start getting active.
In my case, I started intermittent fasting (2 meals a day btwn Noon and 6pm) and 30 mins of cardio exercises 4-5 days a week. It's tough not having sweets or chips, and it's tough getting off the couch and riding that bike. But, since I started a couple of months ago, I'm down almost 30 pounds.

IMO it's really easy to do it yourself, but people come to us (I run a metabolic health/obesity program at a medical facility, I have dieticians and health coaches that do the math for patients) or some of my friends (I have 3 friends who own meal delivery services, primarily focusing on bodybuilding and different "diets" - keto, macros, etc.) because they are unwilling to do it. It doesn't take long to develop a habit of closely monitoring your diet, but be honest with yourself; if you are like the overwhelming majority of people, you likely won't do it and get better results having someone do all the work for you. In that regard, there are countless options and WW/Jenny Craig/Nutrisystem probably offer similar things - up to you to determine if it is worth the cost.Horologium wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 1:43 pm+1Beensabu wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 11:16 am They just limit your calorie intake for you, if you stick to not eating anything else besides vegetables and fruits.

Jenny Craig - the problem for me: they were willing to sub some of the meals, but I found a lot to be, uh, undesirable to me. And their treats were great, but I really don't need that attraction enhanced.
I did try Silver Cuisine, and found their frozen meals to be less, hmm, commercial?

They have a structured meal plan program, too, using the same choices

but like JC, I was buying things I didn't want to eat, so preferred the SC option.
Not cheap.
For me, retirement did the most for meals and exercise

I was a Nutrisystem skeptic for years and thought it was hokey. Finally decided with my spouse to do the enrollment. Dropped 50 and have kept 40 off for over 6 months so far - feel great. Most folks on this board know dwelling an yesterdays choices is a bad investment of time - I should have done it sooner. Did I think it was expensive and not worth the dollar outlay - you bet. I was incorrect. Is the food good - heck no. Most of it is palatable and after a bit you can do flex meals (roll your own.) The forum seemed fine, however I didn't using it, finding the Numi app tied with the meals and scanning to thing. Is it a bit of a pain - yep. Do you get used to it. Yep. First week is the toughest. If you do it be resolute. Final bits of advice if you go this route, buy the plan with premium meals as they are worth it and never pay rack rate - plenty of pop-up coupons. I could give tons more advice, but you'll find your own route. My recommendation is find a plan and go with it; it's all about calorie deprivation. I did Naturally Slim at one point and put back on every pound I lost. Note: Been ready B'heads for years. Made an account just to reply to you.
