Covid Price Surges: Whats good to sell right now?

Post by barnaclebob »

I know that baseball cards, boats, and kayaks are selling very well right now. I could sell my boat for 30% to 50% increase over what I paid last year. I sold 2 kayaks for 25% more than I paid 2 years ago (bought them used from craigslist).

What else is selling well? RVs and camping trailers? Maybe this thread can inspire some of us to let go of depreciating items for better prices than we may ever see again.

It appears just about anything...

So long as one doesn't have to buy an equivalent. Downsizing would work, as well.

I don't know that I see the point though. I sell something I no longer want. I keep things I use. Meh.

Used car prices have skyrocketed while new car prices have basically stayed the same.

A clear arbitrage opportunity. Trade up your used car for a new car for very little incremental cost (or even profit)

Used cars. Sold a vehicle last year to a dealer at private party prices. Checked KBB and saw prices were ever crazier now so I listed my 20 year old beater that needed some TLC. A bidding war erupted. If you have a vehicle you want out of, now is the time.

Housing. If you want to get out of the landlord business, sell.

+1

I have an offer from CarMax for my three year old Corolla that is for more than I paid for it when it was new(not including tax and licence). The offer is good for a week.

I went out and test drove a more expensive SUV today and I am trying to work out a deal for a new car by emailing dealers before the CarMax offer expires.

The new car prices do seem to vary a lot. Some new car models are in short supply because of a worldwide computer chip shortage.

Ian Byrne, assistant manager of Highfield Garden World in Whitminster, Gloucestershire, said there had been a “massive upswing” in the sales of garden gnomes. “We haven’t seen a gnome in six months now, unfortunately,” he said.

Manufacturing drastically slowed down in the past year. The normal product supply is not there.

Which is causing a price squeeze in a lot of areas. I don't know a consistent way to attempt to profit of these moves.

Bikes. I sold my rental multifamily building. Got rid of all my physical silver.
